FERNDALE, Calif. — The Humboldt County Fair is turning up the heat this afternoon with its annual Chili Cook-Off, featuring celebrity judge and Food Network star Guy Fieri. The event begins at 1 p.m. Thursday, August 21, inside the fairgrounds’ grandstands at 1250 Fifth Street in Ferndale.

Dozens of competitors will serve up their best recipes as the crowd enjoys live music and a chance to vote for their favorites. Contestants are competing for cash prizes and special awards, including the coveted Golden Buzzer Award, chosen by the audience.

Admission to the cook-off is $11, which includes a souvenir tasting mug and 10 voting tickets. VIP meet-and-greet passes with Fieri were offered, but have already sold out.

Winners will be announced later in the afternoon, with awards ranging from $350 to $1,000 in cash and prizes.
