Fall is around the corner and we want our 3 month old cayenne pepper plant to survive, but we cant get this planter in the house because of its huge weight. We dont know how else to protect it from winter. My grandpa suggested transplanting but that could cause bad issues in the future. What do we do?

Transplanting it shouldn’t cause issues in the future if anything it would die during the transplant but it shouldn’t. it should be alright just try to get as much of the roots as possible.
Is your goal that it simply makes it to next season, or do you want to continue harvesting from it?
What cold hardiness zone are you in? I leave mine out over winter using frost cloth. I have some peppers that are several years old.
You have 2 choices…… transplant it and risk killing it or leave it outside and let it die. You actually have a third option of building a heated greenhouse around it but I figured that was a bit much.
If you do transplant it, for several hours before you transplant it water the hell out of it. I have transplanted plants but not quite that big. Good luck
listen to grandpa
Overwinter it. Clip it down to 4 or 5 nodes, shake the roots out and plant it in fresh soil. Put it in a low temp indoor environment and give a little light. You want it to go to sleep, not grow. If it’s green, it’s alive. Replant it in the spring and it will double its output if you take care of it.
