Italy Travel Diary, Part 2: Sorrento, Pompeii, Capri, Rome May 25–June 2
The second leg of our Italy trip took us to the Amalfi Coast and into the heart of Rome. From lemon groves in Sorrento to the ruins of Pompeii, the sparkling waters of Capri, and the history-packed streets of the Eternal City, this week was filled with unforgettable sights, food, and memories. Here’s a look at where we stayed, what we did, and the moments that stood out most.
Where We Stayed
Sorrento – Airbnb
Our home base on the Amalfi Coast, perfectly perched with views of the sea and surrounded by citrus trees. It was the ideal spot for exploring nearby towns and hopping on a boat ride to Capri.
Rome – Airbnb
We wrapped up this stretch of the trip with a stay in Rome, close enough to walk to all the major landmarks. Charming, lively, and the perfect end to this part of the adventure.
What We Did
Day Trip to Pompeii:
We spent a day exploring the ancient ruins of Pompeii. Walking through the preserved streets and seeing the history up close was surreal, an absolute must.
Boat Day to Capri:
A highlight of the trip. We took a boat over to Capri, explored the island’s streets, rode a chairlift to the top of the island, and soaked in the incredible views. Between the Blue Grotto, beach clubs, and just wandering, it felt like a dream.
Exploring Sorrento:
We wandered through lemon-lined streets, sampled limoncello, and ate some of the freshest seafood pasta of the trip. Sorrento had such a cozy, welcoming feel.
Rome Highlights:
– Tossed a coin in the Trevi Fountain
– Walked through the Colosseum and Basilica
– Admired the art and architecture of the Vatican
– Ate our weight in carbonara, cacio e pepe, and gelato
– Spent late nights wandering cobblestone streets lit by café lights
