Il 60% of olive oil produced in Greece e intended for export goes in Italy. Excluding 10% which ends up in Germany and a 7,8% that flies in the United States, the remaining part (22,2%) the rest is distributed with minimal percentages among a hundred countries of the planet. These are the data of the 2024 ofHellenic Statistical Authority and collected by the Greek portal olivenews.gr.
We are talking about almost 118 thousand tons of olive oil sold in bulk and in tanks which generated just under one billion euros (937 million to be exact) with a base price of 7 euro / kg (but in the countries where it is exported packaged it exceeds 10 euros).
Italy has purchased over 70 thousand tons of it pay almost half a billion euros. A truly significant quantity, also due to the fact that on the other side of the Mediterranean, specifically Spain, oil production had been disastrous.
It should always be remembered that Italy has an evident need to obtain supplies from abroad, since In our country, an average of 500 thousand tons of oil are consumed, in the face of a national production of 300 thousand, without counting as many and they are exported abroad with the Italian brand.
