I got a few plants from grocery outlet 3 weeks ago. I got a Serrano pepper plant and did not expect it to flower so soon. Now I have a few flowers and I’m not sure how to properly care for it!

I’ve been reading how it should have been transplanted before flowering and the plants that flower this soon won’t produce good results later on.

Should I just stake it and transplant when the harvest is over?

Any and all help/advice is appreciated, including helpful links!

It’s certainly not going to make it in that little nursery pot. I’d say go for it! I would do it in the evening to help prevent too much shock to the plant from transplanting. Maybe give it a stake for some support too. It’s a bit small and sad from its little pot. Fingers crossed for you!

She’s root bound the best thing you could do is transplant

Never too late to give it some love. Unless your growing season is coming to an end soon. Then it might be best to just roll the dice and see what happens.

I would re-pot it in the biggest pot you have, and bury it deeper into the soil than it is right now, maybe as deep as the lowest leaves. Stake it/support it. Give it some balanced fertilizer. If it starts growing well, but your weather is getting colder, you could try covering it whenever the temperature drops below 40°F and uncover when it’s warmer. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say! Good luck with your mission!!

It is NEVER too late to repot. Just disturb the roots as little as possible. I’d also plant it about an inch deeper than what it is in that tiny pot.

I say go for it and then move it indoors before the first frost.
