Those wanting to put a home-cooked meal on the table without all the work will soon have a new option in Georgetown.

Palozzi’s Eatery is set to open in the coming weeks at 150 Guelph St., across from Christ the King Catholic Secondary School.

Authentic Italian food is the focus of the business owned and operated by an Italian-Canadian family from Georgetown.

“Nothing’s going to be delivered pre-made to us,” co-owner Nicole Daneluzzi said. “We’ve got about 10 different homemade sauces that we’ll be making on the daily.”

For Daneluzzi and her family, “tradition is just something that is very important.”

“Our grandparents have passed. Now as an adult, I’m finding myself wishing that I could call them up and ask, ‘How did you make this?’”

The business idea was born as much out of necessity as entrepreneurial spirit. The Palozzi family moved to Georgetown from Brampton four years ago. The scarcity of genuine Italian food in the community meant they often chose to leave town to enjoy some.

“We’re always going out and we’re always travelling to Oakville, here and there, to different Italian places,” noted Preston Palozzi, Daneluzzi’s brother.

As the name implies, Palozzi’s Eatery will be a family business through and through. Daneluzzi will be working alongside her mother, Heidi, to make the food. Father John will be handling the financial side of things. Preston, the family social butterfly, is ready to be the face of the business.

Together, they will essentially become ambassadors of Italian cuisine by bringing foods as simple as veal or meatball sandwiches and as complex as lasagna and other fresh pasta to their customers. The owners conceived their business as a grab-and-go restaurant, although some limited space will be available for anyone who wants to stay and eat.

The family has years of experience running a catering business, making them well-equipped to prepare fresh food quickly.

At this stage, the Palozzis don’t have an opening date set for their restaurant, but they anticipate it will happen either in late August or mid-September.

In the meantime, local residents can follow their progress Facebook page.
