No matter how you slice it, going out for pizza in Michigan is always a good idea. Typically, that means a Detroit-style pie with its signature thick, airy crust and generous toppings. But if you do a deeper dive, you’ll discover endless pie varieties to enjoy in the Mitten State. One spot that’s caught my eye recently is Slice of Italy Pizzeria. It’s here you’ll find authentic Italian pizza with a twist: The pizza is enormous. So big, in fact, that a single slice could easily count as a meal and then some.

Tucked away in Monroe, Michigan, is a true show-stopper: Slice of Italy Pizzeria, famous for its larger-than-life slices. The restaurant is located inside a local convenience store, and if you weren’t in the know, you might miss this unsuspecting culinary gem. Orders can be placed at the counter, online, or by phone. The specialty here is, of course, pizza, made just about any way you’d like it—specialty options include meat lovers, chicken bacon ranch, Hawaiian, veggie, and more. They also offer a handful of subs, salads, and stromboli.

But you’re probably here for the specialty item: a massive 24-inch slice of pizza. Taking up an entire large pizza box, this two-foot slice is easily enough to share, but you may not want to. The crust is thin, perfectly crispy, and the signature sauce and cheese topped with pepperonis is unbeatable. There is one challenge though—trying to figure out how to pick up a slice this big!

The single slices actually come from a giant two-foot pizza, so if you’re hosting an event, you can order an entire Party Pizza made just the way you like it.

You may be wondering about quality, given that the pizza slice is almost comically large. But rest assured, this giant pie is every bit as good as you’d expect from a local Michigan pizzeria. Folks rave about the crust, flavorful sauce, and the cooked-to-perfection taste. One recent traveler raved: “This pizza was fantastic. Great flavor, great dough, and cooked just right. Better than most I have had from New York and the Jersey area. Very much worth the stop.”

Of course, you don’t need to order the 24-inch slice to appreciate the quality. Slice of Italy also offers more traditional sizes at great price points, too. A small cheese pizza will set you back just $9.

So, what do you think? Will you make the drive to Monroe to order one of the biggest and most delicious pizza slices in the world? The pizza restaurant is open Tuesdays through Sundays, from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays).
