My parents bought a 1/4 cow. These were the ribeyes. I’m suspicious. What do you all think?

that looks like some real bottom of the barrel beef that they would not have been able to sell individually

  2. If you don’t mind me asking, how much did they pay? Did they get the milk for free? First question is legit.

let me guess. 1/4 cow: 30lbs of ground, 3 x 3lbs chunk and other roasts, 2lbs flank and that will be all. Sounds about right. The cows nowadays are the size of a sheep. I quit buying from butchers/ranchers long time ago.

Those are some crappy ribeye. Look like oversized lamb shoulder blade chops

  5. DrStrangulation

Those may be the worst ribeye I’ve ever seen

  6. Desperate-Score3949

These look like some dollar store ribeyes if I have ever seen one.

Rib eye with ribs still attached. These are from the backend of the rib roast thats why the cap muscle is so small and not really visible. Best rib eye Steaks are at the front end.

At least they took the saddle off before they butchered it.

Them look like hell, tell your parents to buy a grain finished fat steer, not some nasty old grass fed cow

You may want to alert law enforcement for grand theft marbling.

Depending on what they bought. If it was grassfed and finish free range cows. Those sucker’s are very lean. Even their ribeyes are lean like that.

Those ain’t ribeyes, not grass fed or anything, they cut you something different altogether.

I honestly don’t understand why anybody buys a 1/4, 1/2 or full side of beef. Most of it will go in the freezer where it may have a shelf life of 6 months if it is well-wrapped.

You get a lot of expensive ground beef and, depending upon the skills of the butcher, a bunch of other cuts that may or may not be as good as what you can get fresh at the store.

I stopped buying meat by the percent of an animal for this exact reason.

  15. When you buy a 1/4 of. 500 pound animal they aren’t going to be very big

It looks more like a lamb chop. I’m doubtful you’re fucking with us, but yeah that’s just an odd looking bone in ribeye

Rib steak from a very lean animal. Looks like the chuck end. Appears to have some shoulder blade left in it.

Look man….99% of the time or more any of those “buy a half cow” deals you see on facebook or a sign on the side of the road are PURE scams and nothing more. You are getting ripped the fuck off because that is the only way to make profit on reselling meat small time.

NEVER EVER EVER buy meat like that. If you talking to the farmer that raises the cows, then you’re PROBABLY not going to get ripped off….anyone else, expect to get fleeced by default.

Like that’s all of the ribeyes? or just the fact that they still have the rib cap still on them like a cowboy ribeye. It kind of looks like it was a smaller beef so they opted to leave the rib cap on! They should have at least got six on that quarter, no less then 5 if they were thicker

I think they got screwed. That’s the problem when buying beef in this manner. You don’t know what you get until you open the package. We bought a 1/4 cow once. Never again.

I live in Wisconsin and some people buy beef this way. I had a coworker give me a chuck roast and it didn’t look great and had zero flavor, threw it away. Im sure some people get good beef this way, but most of the cattle here are dairy and the natives have eaten it all their lives, they don’t know any better.
