BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) -It’s deep, it’s cheesy, and it’s straight from the windy city. Authentic Chicago-style deep-dish pizza.
If a Southcentral Kentucky resident wanted real Chicago pizza, they would have to hop in their car and drive over six hours to get that slice of pie, but not anymore.
The Tamburrino family has delivered that authentic Chicago taste to Scottsville Road through their very own restaurant, Tamburrino’s Pizzeria.
“My whole family is from Chicago, born and bred,” said co-owner Brian Tamburrino. “We moved here about six years ago. So, mostly it’s Chicago-style deep dish. Lots of ingredients, lots of cheese, all premium ingredients, nothing is frozen. Everything is made fresh every day.”
While the brick-and-mortar location is new, the Tamburrinos have been in business for over a year and a half, making pizzas any way they could.
“We started out of our house for about six months, and then we grew too big, too fast, so we ran out of Doug’s Motor City on Cumberland Trace Road For about a year, we were just a ghost kitchen, and we just opened for takeout only, but we were growing so fast we had to… We were just losing so many customers without having a sit-down dine-in experience, so we decided to go all-in. We got a couple of business partners and just went with it,” Tamburrino explained.
While owning a restaurant is a relatively new endeavor for the family, cooking has been in Tamburrino’s blood his entire life.
“I grew up in a big Italian family and every weekend, my grandma, my mom would be cooking pizzas and pastas and that’s kind of how most Italians show love is with food, and I cooked for my family, you know, my kids since they were toddlers all the way until they were old,” he said.
According to co-owner Michelle Tamburrino, her husband was initially a truck driver, but his food was so good that she knew they could have a restaurant.
“I said, ‘You have a gift, like, we’ve got to do something with this.’ And of course, he wasn’t sad to leave trucking,” she said.
Tamburrino’s Pizzeria is located at 2800 Scottsville Road, Suite 160, near the Vitamin Shoppe and Starbucks, and is now open for business.
