So grateful to have my first ever kaiseki experience at Gion Maruyama last month!

I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect because I deliberately did not read detailed reviews prior to my visit, but safe to say that the details and care that this establishment put into the experience were impeccable and surpassed any expectations. The meal itself was a beautiful journey through seasonal flavors, but what truly elevated the evening was the attentive yet unobtrusive service that made us feel completely welcomed and cared for. This was all set within a stunningly traditional architecture. I really enjoyed dining in the authentic machiya townhouse with all the subtle craftsmanship and intimate atmosphere. The food itself – I would say that for the VERY HIGH price point, I might be expecting a bit more – but the presentations were understated, not ostentatious but still beautiful, and ingredients were fresh (they have a very strong focus on seasonal ingredients).

Special occasion worthy!

I’ve taken both friends and family here and it’s been a consistent intro to kaiseki!

The bowing when you leave and until you disappear from eye view is always an entertaining moment lol
