I love New Jersey and I love food, and I am a big fan of New Jersey food. I am also a fan of New Jersey residents and their competitive spirit when it comes to a good argument.

But this pork roll or Taylor Ham controversy we have created in the Garden State has boiled over into ruining our amazing reputation for fine food. Here’s what I mean.

I was recently scrolling, and came across a list of each state and the food it was most famous for. The article was on a very popular site called Stacker.
The Thing New Jersey Residents Argue The Most Over
I was excited to guess before the answer was revealed. Would it be pizza, or maybe chicken parm? It could be sausage and peppers, or even bagels. But it was none of these things.

We are so entrenched in that Garden State battle that this major publication has named the Pork Roll Sandwich the food New Jersey is best known for, and that is nothing short of a crime.
Does New Jersey Have America’s Best Italian Food?
I have nothing against a good pork roll sandwich, but to think we talk about it so much that it’s more well-known than New Jersey pizza (which I think is the best in the country), and that’s a sin.

So, on behalf of all the Italian food lovers in New Jersey, I apologize to all the cooks, chefs, and restaurant owners in our state who deserve better.
