MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Football season is heating up, and so are the grills. On Tuesday, Aug. 26, local chefs threw down to see who had the best tailgating food.
Local chefs and restaurants competed in the Taste of the Tailgate Cook-Off, a lunchtime showdown hosted by The Bayou Jamb.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees sampled tailgate-inspired dishes from various culinary teams in the Abe Pierce III Bayou Room at the Monroe Civic Center.
The Bayou Jamb is a local organization that hosts football events, community experiences, and spotlights student athletes of the NELA region.
This event is a part of the Bayou Jamb’s week-long kick-off to the football season.
Many local restaurants were a part of the event like Newk’s Eatery, Danken Trail, Johnny’s Pizza and Clawdaddy’s.
As well as some less known favorites like Who Dat Krewe, Tamales 2 Go and Flavor Bombs.
Carol Williams Gillard, a member of the Who Dat Krewe team, said: “Nothing is quite like Louisiana food.”
The event wasn’t just about food, it was a celebration of the city’s football culture and community pride.
