Depriving one’s self from Baudry with age is the exact opposite of self-care. Well, at least that’s how I feel!

This really leans into that elegance and savoriness of Baudry that I just love. The nose is fragrant and balanced with lovely tones of Crushed rocks, herbs, red cherries, chalky notes, leather, violets, red berries, blueberries, flinty notes, tobacco notes, potpourri, and roses. M bod with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium tannins that still have some youth to them. This got better with air and probably could benefit from 30-45 minutes of air before drinking.

This was another reminder of why I badly need to actually hold onto bottles of Baudry and not just drink them young!!

I second that, knowing both the struggle and the reward well!

Nice, grabbed a couple bottles of this from WineBid recently. Looking forward to it based on this note.

Hear you on difficulty of holding onto them – the Baudry lineup really does drink quite well young, which can make it hard to keep your paws off of them.

I’ve never had a good experience with Chinon Cab Francs. Probably not drinking the right ones tbh. I’ve had only a handful , but they were all from middling producers and recent vintages. Willing to try again bc I still always hear good things. Maybe I’ll give this one a shot if I see it.

2011 is in a lovely spot right now with an hour or two of decanting.

Re: holding them longer…..2004 was out-of-this-world transcendent. On par with the best Loire reds I’ve ever had, up to and including Rougeard, or ’89 Olga Raffault, or all the other heavies.

    Such a reliably fantastic producer.

This Baudry cuvee, in particular, needs a lot of time…a bit riper…oakier (significantly) than some of the other cuvees…Great juice….

One of the producers I’d point people towards if they want Cab Franc that overperforms and will appeal to geeks and non-geeks alike..

  7. Oh, I’m jelly. Such a great producer. And I never have the patience to hold on for that long.

Had a young mid-level (grezeaux?) bottle the other night and it was perfect for curing a cab franc fix.

Love Baudry – such soulful, honest Cabernet Franc. Especially impressed you managed to hold onto a 2011 this long! How was it showing after the wait? Still carrying that freshness and leafy edge, or has it gone more earthy and savory?

One of my favorite producers. Cool family and running a great wine bar in town too
