So I am a long time chille head, first time grower. This year I grew two Trinidad Scorpion plants and two Habanero. One of my Scorpions produced one pepper about a month to a month and a half ago, and last week it finally ripened. I picked it last night and after work today I cut it open and tried a piece so I could get a flavor profile to decide what kind of sauces I am going to make when the rest of the fruit finally ripen. This did not go as planned.

Immediately I got a sweet fruity flavor that was really pleasant, followed by some heat, and then it became very floral, which I'm not the biggest fan of so I'm a little disappointed because I was under the impression Scorpions were very fruity and almost pineapple forward, this was like taking a bite out of a bouquet of flowers. After the floral notes the heat came on. I have a pretty high tolerance so I'd rate it a six or a seven on my scale, so it wasn't absolutely destroying me but still pretty hot. It was what came next that wrecked me. Just as the heat in my mouth started to back down, I got the worst stomach pains I've ever felt. I tried to walk it off but ended up having to lay down for a few minutes until it subsided. I was surprised that it tore me up inside so bad seeing as even though it was hot, it wasn't the hottest thing I've eaten by a long shot, and I've never gotten stomach pains like that before.

Needless to say, I will not be taking bites out of any of these little devils anytime soon, theyre strictly for sauce and pepper flakes now.

The last picture is of the pepper after I bit a piece so y'all can see I only took a little bit, but man it sure did a number on me. 😭

Hoo boy! I’m glad you directed me to your experience from my post. Thankfully, I’ve learned my lesson from trying ghost peppers a long time ago. I’ve been a heat seeker for my whole life, had plenty of spicy sauces and whatever. The heat from the raw pepper is the worst stomach pain I’ve ever felt as well.

I had bought ghost and scorpion peppers from Stop n Shop, thinking “wow, what novelty, I didn’t know they sold peppers this hot.”

I ate about half a pepper in total from cut up bits of both. They were hot, of course, but nothing insane to where I was concerned, about 45 minutes later when I started to feel like a burning coal was in my stomach. My partner said I turned yellow. I couldn’t sit still, I was sweating and nauseous. We ended up walking to a convenience store and I drank pepto bismol and ate tums in the vestibule. Around an hour of pain and then I started to feel better. I will only pickle my peppers now, and turn them into hot sauce.
