I bought a bottle of this with a Zaku from Gundam on it years ago and man, did I regret not getting more. Fantastic on chicken.

You can also get them at a Japanese supermarket!

It’s yuzu kosho, a spicy paste made from yuzu (a citrus fruit that’s kind of a cross between all the best parts of the rest of them). Depending on where you are, there are a few different brands available and each will be made with a different spice blend but they’ll all be citrus-y spicy goodness. (If you’re in the US, Trader Joe’s has a house blend.) I’ll put it on anything but I really like a bit of it mixed into ramen.

That’s yuzu kosho. It’s a condiment made from yuzu citrus peels, salt, and chile peppers. The peppers and yuzu in yours come from Oita prefecture – if you visit that region, you’ll also find less common varieties like kabosu kosho.
If you like the taste, I’d recommend buying more varieties of it, as they all vary in flavour. I have 4 or 5 of them in my fridge, and I like to use them in sauces, marinades, or anything that I want to amp up the flavour with a hit of salt/heat/acidity.
Note that the label on yours says to store it at room temp, which is fine. It’s the same as miso in terms of storage – fridge temps will preserve the flavour and quality longer, whereas room temp will age faster, and you might find that you like the results of aging a product like this.

I love that stuff! So fragrant.

Strongly suggest people that enjoy yuzu kosho to try to make it with local citrus and peppers. It’s easy to make.
