2023 Weingut Thörle Saulheimer Probstey Silvaner trocken
I was excited to open a bottle of this absolutely stellar young Silvaner. We shared this wine at the second annual CSS back in May and I made sure to track some down to add to my personal cellar.
This was enjoyed over two days and it desperately needed that additional air. Very tightly wound on day one, this opened beautifully by day two. A luxurious mouth feel, this stylish and classy wine showed layers of mineral richness and polished texture.
Beautiful notes of lemon verbena and crushed limestone on the nose led to a palate that was all about texture and balance. Delicious notes of sweet herbs, piquant citrus, and liquid minerals finished in a long and satisfying way.
This is a Silvaner of class and style. A wine to age and a wine that shows a level of class and pedigree where Silvaner can rise above its perceived place and demonstrate qualities that are truly exceptional. A beautifully crafted wine by the talented Thörle brothers.
