This is a weird gimmick. I’m all for supporting small businesses but this doesn’t seem right.

So ant based condiments *are* a thing in various tribal/rural cultures across the world. I myself have not had the opportunity to partake but I’ve heard that it’s supposed to be quite good.

I’m not buying ant hot sauce in a bottle from a white guy though.

I’ve had ants chutney before. It’s really tart and the recipe is traditionally prepared spicy. It’s good, the tang is kinda different. Never had the chance to try it again, and didn’t seek out as well.

This man seems to really hate ants. Guess they got in his pants one time and he liked it.

  5. When I was a little kid I tasted an ant or two just to see what was up. They were kind of peppery and spicy, so I can see this being a thing.

Eh. The marketing is stupid, but there’s nothing that weird with entomophagy – it’s done by tons of cultures for thousands of years. You can actually get black ant powder as a protein supplement too.

  7. I had Ants as part of a dish when I was in Vietnam, from this little restaurant that supported people living on the street by training them to work in a kitchen.

The meal was absolutely fantastic. The Ants were supposed to add this spicy taste which they certainly did.

I feel like Zoolander would have something to say about this.

The guy looks like he’s trying way too hard to look cool.

But I’d try ant sauce. Why not?

Ok but can I enjoy food without intentionally eating ants??

    Seems like I can, so…..

When you think you’ve truly seen it all….this pops up.

I am certain that we need ants doing what they’re currently doing and not in a fucking sauce.
Don’t we have enough sauce variations???

The duality of redditors: “Not in a million years.” “I’d try it for free!”

It’s not the sauce that’s stupid it’s the company, their marketing and insulting customer engagement and wannabe alpha edgelord behavior that’s stupid. Anyone who’s commented on their ads will tell you the same.

I remember watching a cooking show once and it was some big time chef who had a meal made for him by some indigenous women in a forest. He raved about how the dish had this wonderful ginger flavor and asked what it was since that area was not known to have ginger growing.

She took him to an ant hill and the translator explained how she would catch the ants and that’s what gave the dish its ginger flavor.

That stuck with me as I’ve eaten insects in the past (toasted meal worms taste exactly like toasted almonds it’s a trip!), so I wonder if the ants flavor the sauce in a similar way?

Eating insects isn’t a weird thing, marketing it as some new revolutionary thing is

Great, another common species we’re going to kill just because of mass consumption.

Sometimes I’ll empty the hummingbird feeder and it’s full of dead ants. The acid they produce smells like stale piss and I can’t imagine it tastes better.

They make a real salsa in Mexico made from a specific ant. It tastes a lot like lemon grass. What is stupid us ignorance in this thread mocking real traditional foods.

  19. sounds awesome, I like the historical nature of it. definitely buying some

Formic acid. Who wants to eat ant ass? (This guy)

    Whatever dude.
