Recovering from a full wisdom tooth extraction at age 28 and just starting to add semi-solid food back into my diet post-op. Made some congee with fresh lemongrass, ginger, garlic, shiitakes and chicken broth and topped with half a can of Brunswick Gourmet Brisling Sardines in Olive Oil + a drizzle of toasted sesame oil. Most protein I've gotten in three days of protein shakes and blended soup and so delicious.

interesting! how was it? bowl looks amazing. I’d be drowning it in green onions
If any are interested, the congee recipe I used is a riff off of this one: [Vegan Congee (Jook)](https://healthynibblesandbits.com/vegan-congee-recipe-jook/)
My version is not vegan even before adding the sardines (and usually I use the dried shrimp/scallops base recipe from this same website but I was working with what I had in the house at the time to make it as low effort as possible). Ratios are all the same but used chicken broth instead of vegetable broth + sliced the shiitakes once rehydrated before adding to the rice and left everything in the porridge instead of removing once cooked. Sardines and sesame oil were added as a garnish. As stated in one of my other comments, were my teeth more healed up, there’d be a lot more crispy shallots and scallions on this bowl.
Omg I JUST started making congee this year. Amazing idea!! Gonna do this ASAP ☺️
Yum! May the Deen Gods aid in your recovery ❤️
Definitely a good combo.
Grew up eating a variant of this, albeit it was SE Asian brand tomato sardines (555, Ligo, Ayam, Sumaco, Mega etc) sauteed with onions and some Thai chili or the [yellow and red tins](https://thewoksoflife.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/dace-fish-black-bean-5.jpg) of fried dace with black beans. Then some quick veg stir fry.
Was always a quick meal option when the parents were too tired from work and didn’t wanna do heavy cooking for dinner. Nostalgia when I open up some tins nowadays to go with congee or just hot white rice.
