Restaurants in Casentino, where you can enjoy truffles, potato tortelli, game, and haute cuisine in one of the most pristine and wooded areas of Tuscany, right where the rolling hills give way to the imposing Tuscan Apennines.
A food and wine tour of some of the finest restaurants in Casentino.
THEthe Casentino it is a small valley immersed in nature between the provinces of Florence And ArezzoA land rich in scenic beauty, ancient traditions and a quality cuisine with typical products and dishes to discover and taste. This is why I want to tell you about my sparkling weekend in search of good restaurantsThis weekend, in fact, Alessandra and Marco decided to come visit me all the way from Bologna. Total panic, the notice is short and I’m a total disaster at cooking…and now what do I do?
Brilliant idea, I decide to take them to taste our best typical products on a tour food and wine for the Casentino and so on Friday we go straight to Stia, to theOsteria del Caranbar.
Osteria del Caranbar – Stia
THE’Osteria del Caranbar was born in 2004 and is located in a small village at the foot of the Mount Falterona, right where the Arno River originates. Massimo, Vilma and Daniela’s cuisine is one local cuisine Revisited with a modern twist, with special attention to the finest ingredients. Both the pasta and desserts are handmade, and all the products served are locally sourced.
As soon as we enter we find a well-kept place and the owners welcome us with kindness, sitting at the table we check the menu and decide to have the first courses Pici alla carbonara with truffle shavings and the classics Potato Tortelli with Vilma’s SauceFor the second courses we opt for the Turkey strips with melted truffled pecorino cheese And Veal fillet with onions sautéed in Chianti.
We choose to accompany the delicious dinner with a house red directly from the Leonardo da Vinci cellar in MontalcinoThe evening is a real success!!! And where are we going tomorrow? I decide to try a small place with a truly unique atmosphere: La Tana degli Orsi in Pratovecchio.

Restaurants in Casentino: La Tana degli Orsi (Pratovecchio)
Born in 1987 The Bear’s Den It is a small place where you can feel the warmth and professionalism. Its cuisine aims to enhance the typical products in a personal way; you can savor ancient Tuscan recipes reinterpreted in a personal way by the chef. Another special feature of the restaurant is the large variety of wines served with a constant search for emerging producers.
Tonight my friends and I are ordering the Cappellacci with Porcini Mushrooms and Fossa Cheese with a Mountain Flavor and a Locally sourced burgers and sliced local beef with white potatoes from Cavalena.Given the variety of wines we ask for advice and they propose a wine produced right in Pratovecchio, a Pinot Noir farm of the Civettaja, truly of great impact.
Alessandra and Marco had a wonderful time these past two days and decided to stay another night, but where should I take them now? I’ve heard great things about a restaurant in Bibbiena, Tirabusciò, so let’s try it.
The Bear’s Den – Via Roma, 1 Pratovecchio (Arezzo) Tel. +39 0575 583377
The Tirabusciò – Bibbiena
The elegant restaurant is located in the old village of Bibbiena and offers typical dishes of the Casentino tradition cooked with imagination and innovation. The menu changes according to the season and only 30 seats guarantee greater quality of the products offered. We sit down and after a quick look at the menu we choose the Cetica Potato Tortelli with Casentino Grigio Sauce And Bread Gnocchi with Shallots and Chianina PGI Peposo.
This time, to finish off in style, we also order a moment Millefoglie with Mascarpone Cream and flakes of Tuscan black “Amedei” chocolate accompanied by a Moscadello di Montalcino DOC “Pascena”.
The three days of food tour It was a real success; my friends were delighted with our typical products. Next weekend I won’t be alone either; Elena and Elisa will be visiting, but this time I won’t be caught off guard: I’ve already chosen two special restaurants that I’ve personally tried. On Friday, in fact, I’ve decided to take them to the characteristic village of Ortignano Raggiolo at the Il Convivio dei Corsi restaurant.
The Tirabusciò – Via Scoti, 12 Bibbiena (Arezzo) – Tel. +39 0575 595474
Restaurants in Casentino: The Convivio dei Corsi – Ortignano Raggiolo
TO The Convivio dei Corsi For two years, Ante and Annalisa have been delighting their guests with a menu featuring fresh, seasonal produce. Among these, the most notable are: bread, pasta and homemade desserts and again meat, cured meats and cheeses coming from Casentino farms. The last time I came to eat here I was pleasantly surprised by the care and choice of raw materials and I think I’ll also propose the menu I tasted last time to my two friends.
For the first ones Black cabbage pasta tortelli stuffed with cod and chickpeas with sautéed lobster And Pappardelle with roe deer and spiced chocolate while for the second courses Scallop medallions with bacon, chestnut fritters, and rosemary And Mandarin duck trotter with celeriac puree. All accompanied by a bottle of Ornina, a Casentino IGT, and Uvaggio Psyco IGT. Dinner was delicious, but tomorrow I’ll surprise them with an exceptional location: Castello di Valenzano.

Restaurants in Casentino: Valenzano Castle
A few kilometers from Arezzo There is the Valenzano Castle, a magnificent residence built before the 10th century and belonging to the Lombards. Inside the Castle we find the restaurant Featuring a cuisine that changes every month and offers traditional recipes revisited by the chef. We find the tasty Tuscan specialties with homemade pasta, fresh vegetables, quality meat.
The large halls, the loggia, the terrace, also make the Castle an ideal place for weddings, ceremonies, conferences. A real palace surrounded by greenery. This time I want to surprise them with something different, a pork dinner. We’ll start with a Chickpea and black cabbage soup with lard-flavored bread gnocchi and rosemary accompanied by a “Lamelle” IGT Toscana 2014 harvest from the Il Borro agricultural company.
For second one Long-cooked scamerita on a potato and cabbage pie paired with a Meriggio, a souvignon blanc from the Fonto company and if they are still hungry I would finish with a Dark Chocolate Flan with Zabaglione Sauce.
