La Bottega Italian Gourmet officially opened its doors Thursday, Aug. 28, in the heart of Babylon Village.

The fast-casual Italian eatery, known for its paninis, pastas, salads and pizzas, is located at 238 Deer Park Ave. — marking the family-run chain’s long-awaited return to Suffolk County after nearly a decade.

“It’s got such a nice village feel,” owner Giuseppe Ruta told Greater Long Island ahead of the Babylon launch. “When it’s a beautiful day and people walk outside, they have coffees, they have nice spots, good restaurants, good sushi, good burgers, good bars. It’s quaint — we belong here.”

The Babylon debut comes just after the family opened another La Bottega in East Norwich at 6245 Northern Blvd.

Husband-and-wife team Giuseppe and Marisa Ruta launched their first La Bottega more than 20 years ago in Garden City South. Today, they’re expanding with the help of their children.

The Rutas’ two youngest children are now partners in the business. Daughter Melania, 29, who studied architecture, is in charge of design and food operations. Son Giuseppe Jr., 25, a graduate of Les Roches hospitality school in Switzerland, oversees the wine program and beverage list.

Their vision is to deliver an “Italian chic” atmosphere, with warm lighting, music, and wine to pair with freshly made food.

“Even if you just come for a panino,” Ruta said, “you want to have a good glass of wine, a good environment, good lighting, good music. The experience is complete.”

With the expansion, La Bottega now has locations in Garden City, Oceanside, Rockville Centre, Glen Cove, East Norwich, and Babylon Village.
