I have tofu teriyaki bowl for my early dinner! nobody likes tofu in the house so I don't buy much. I usually eat 5 slices for my portion cause I eat them with hot rice and any boiled veggies for some crunch. I also added button mushroom cause I love it 💚

    ingredients:

    * for tofu:
    – tofu, sliced into 5 pieces
    – 1 tbsp soy sauce
    – pinch of pepper (black and white)

    * for teriyaki sauce:

    – 1 cm ginger, minced
    – 3 cloves of garlic, minced
    – 1 tsp sesame oil
    – 3 tbsp soy sauce
    – 1 tsp honey
    – 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
    – 2 tsp brown sugar
    – 1 tbsp water
    – corn starch and water for slurry (just little bit)

    * additional ingredients:
    – olive oil, or whatever oil you like to use
    – broccoli, or any greens if you like
    – button mushroom (optional)
    – white onion
    – sesame seeds

    how to make:

    – slice tofu, make into five slices. put in a bowl and marinate with soy sauce, black and white pepper.

    – pour a little bit of oil in medium heat, place the tofu that already marinated. cook until brown. set aside.

    – in an empty pan, sauteed button mushroom and white onion, cook until it soften.

    – mix all the ingredients for sauce, pour in a pan that already filled with button mushroom and white onion. simmer in a pan until its boiled. add the slurry little by little until it reach the consistency you wanted. place the tofu at the end, and stir slowly so the tofu doesn’t break.

    – place it on top of white rice along with boiled broccoli.

    – sprinkle sesame seeds for the last touch.

    The teriyaki glaze on that tofu looks really well done! Five pieces seems like a good portion size too. I’m curious about your cooking method – did you press the tofu first or cook it straight from the package? My mom always says tofu is only as good as how you prepare it, and yours definitely doesn’t look like the rubbery mess most people end up with. The mushrooms are a nice touch for extra umami.
