At just over $4, the price tag was a little bit higher than what I would normally spend, but this tin looked very beginner friendly. I'm still very new to anything outside of your average can of tuna.

I was originally fooled by the small size of the can, but found it adequately filling when spooned out on a bowl of a rice. It's a lot more mild flavored than expected, but it made for a solid meal with rice and lemon. I think I'll keep a couple on hand for a lazy dinner.

I'm also probably not alone in this, but all of the canned fish I've eaten is so much better with a few dashes of hot sauce. Lemon is nice, but the hit of vinegar and spice is even nicer. So far, my exploration of canned fish as a picky adult has been a success!

I think the sauces in cans can be pretty hit and miss, and if you’re OK with starting with plain and then mixing up your own sauce from, let’s say, mayo and horseradish or soy sauce and fresh ginger, you’re more likely to be happy. Even a decent jarred salsa works great.

A favorite go-to quick lunch is to mix a tin of King Oscar salmon or mackerel onto rice and top it with a vinegary hot sauce. With you totally on the vinegar/spice.
