Tonight, I got the privilege of assembling my brand new Traeger Pro Series 34 that I got on sale at Home Depot. As I pulled the box into my living room from the garage and started tearing open the cardboard, my daughter comes in and sees what’s in the box.

Wide eyed and to my surprise, she yells out “Oh my gosh Dad is that your new smoker?? That’s SO cool!!! Can I help you put it together??” To which I said “Of course you can, sweetheart!” And we got to work. She’s only 6 so obviously not an expert or anything when it comes to these kinds of things, but I let her put a few screws in and tighten some stuff up. I wanted her to feel like she really helped.

Once fully assembled, I wheeled it back out to the garage and began my burn in process to which I explained to her in detail. Once the auger was primed and started producing smoke, she started jumping up and down exclaiming “Yay Dad we did it, it works!!” And a tear came to my eye as she gave me a big hug and told me she loved me and that she was glad she could help. “It sure does, baby, it sure does.” I said as I wiped my eyes.

I bought this new smoker to make some delicious meals for me and her and my pup, but little did I know that my little girl would not only take an interest in it but also offer to assist me in building it and watch me do my burn in on it. If that’s not a proud dad moment, then I don’t know what is.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading. Just wanted to share this with some of my fellow BBQ enthusiasts. Smoke on, y’all. 🔥
