SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — The 49th annual La Festa Italiana returns to Scranotn for four days of food, entertainment, and Italian culture.

The event gives people of all ages the chance to enjoy live Italian music, Italian themed clothing and novelties, along with games, and a lot of Italian cuisine.

Colarusso’s Café, a restaurant in Clarks Summit, was one of the few food vendors to participate in the debut of La Festa Italiana in 1976 and has proudly attended every year since.

Joe Colarusso, second-generation owner of Colarusso’s Café, recalls that the festival began very modestly, with only a handful of participating businesses.

Throughout the festival’s near fifty-year run, it has since grown into one of the region’s most celebrated events.

“It brings a lot of people in, and they get to see everything. They get to try everybody’s food. There are people that come from out of state here. They come from all over the place,” said Colarusso.

Pat Padula, Co-Owner of Carmella’s Sauces, says this event has been a big family tradition for the past 30+ years.

“It’s an absolutely wonderful weekend for all the local businesses participating in the show and for the La Festa Committee. It just brings a ton of business, great food and happiness on Labor Day weekend,” said Padula.

La Festa Italiana will be held on the Courthouse Square Friday through Monday starting at 11:00 a.m. each day.
