A driver deliberately plowed a vehicle into a crowd outside a wine bar in this northern French town early Saturday, killing one person and leaving five others injured, authorities said, APA reports citing AFP.
The deadly incident followed an altercation inside the establishment, according to prosecutor Remi Coutin.
After the dispute, “a person allegedly went to fetch a vehicle” and “deliberately reversed at high speed into a crowd outside the establishment,” Coutin told Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Two of the injured victims remained in critical condition, the prosecutor said.
The attack occurred in Evreux, located about 60 miles (96.5 kilometers) west of Paris in the Normandy region. Authorities have not released details about the identity of the driver or victims, nor specified what sparked the initial confrontation inside the wine bar.
French investigators are continuing their inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the deadly ramming incident.
