Hadn’t made this in years and the family requested it. People sleep on this sauce. So delicious.

It’s delicious but I just serve it for dipping because it looks truly disgusting presented like that 🤣. I grew up down south and I’ve never seen anyone do the poor chicken like that.

YES! This is the stuff that stuff is made of. This stuff is soooo good. I love that Bama sauce 👍. Looks absolutely delicious.

Is the sauce homemade and do you have a recipe? Because it looks just how I like it.

This looks better than Bama’s football playing today.

I’m from Alabama and like white sauce, but I swear it was invented because no one in Alabama knows how to smoke chicken. They cook it to death and think it can be held for hours like a butt. You have to have white sauce in order to choke it down.

I keep hearing about Alabama white sauce….never had it…but I am intrigued.

Thank you for sharing this as thighs are my favorite thing to barbecue or smoke or whatever and I will have to give this a go

I’m not about the Alabama sauce. It’s not bad, but there’s just better stuff out there.

Not hatin. Just throwing my opinion out there.

Chicken looks amazing. Love bama white sauce, but you could have done better with the sides!

Alabama white sauce (served on the side) with smoked turkey is the best way to go on Thanksgiving. Look for Big Bob Gibson’s (they’re out of Decatur, AL) recipe for an authentic take on it. There’s a lot of “not so authentic” recipes so benchmark them off of Big Bob’s. If some ingredient just doesn’t look similar to what’s in Big Bob’s, don’t trust it.

I make a white sauce about once a year, and it hits the spot. I prefer it as a coleslaw dressing rather than a bbq sauce, but it’s a nice change of pace on chicken.

Also good on a hearty white fish. There’s a lot of variations, but for me it has to have horseradish. I think I just figured out what I’m grilling for Labor Day.

I am a carolina boy at heart. as such, much like the french, i know my sauces. while the french train on mother sauces like Velouté or Béchamel …i got carolina vinegar sauce. the mother bbq sauce if you will

so carolina vinegar is the “mother sauce” here.

that mother had some kids, including

    nc other side: add ketchup

    sc: add mustard

then we get to alabama. we are running out of condiments with which to adulterate the mother sauce. whats left? mayo.

well folks, there you go. alabama bbq sauce.

and it is actually fucking great on smoked chicken. holy shit its a wing revolution. but on dry ass smoke breasts its a requirement.

edit:i wont even mention adding shitloads of sugar and calling it the other sauce styles. heat in the meat and sweet in the drink folks. its a time honored tradition. also most carolina bbq families are southern baptist so alcohol is a no go hence the sweet drink thing (sweet tea, cheerwine, etc)

Never had it til past 40 and living in TN for a bit. Serious “I went 40 years without this?” moment. Found a recipe, whipped it up, and was so very disappointed. Until I put it on smoked chicken. Tomato based bbq dominates chicken, overpowers chicken, makes chicken its bitch. White sauce compliments chicken, elevates chicken, opens the truck door for chicken and drives it to Leipers Fork to see some music, get a few drinks and maybe buy a hat. Simply amazing.
