I tried. I really did. Connectivity issues kept cropping up until I was left with only one sensor that sort of worked. I put it where it belongs, in the trash with the other garbage.

Me with ANY wireless thermometer.

Bitch I’m trying to smoke meats

Highly recommend a FireBoard, especially if you can add a fan to your smoker to manage pit temp for you. It has saved me quite a few times on overnight cooks.
It also works great inside in the oven. It does charge, you just have to plug probes in.

FireBoard. Period. I bought the pro in 2018 and have never had a single problem with it. Best IoT product I’ve ever owned. Someone bought the MEATER for my dad and I used it a few times and it’s just not great.
SpiritFingersKitty
I must be the only person who doesn’t have a problem with their meater. Been using it for years now (OG meater plus), and despite it taking maybe 15 seconds to connect, it seems to work well and has crazy battery life
dj_goku
I am a huge fan of FireBoard 2 that I have had since 2021. Have only used 2 of the six thermometer probe inputs. Connects to WiFi and can get push notifications when temps reached.

Hmm, I’ve had my meater block for 6 years I think. Overall I’ve been pretty happy with it.
MuttaLuktarFisk
My Meatstick has been asking me to update it for 2 years now, I keep hitting No because I’m about to smoke and have no time for that shit.
Been working great.

Me sitting here with my 30 year old thermometer that I still have from working as a chef. These digital thermometers have zero appeal to me. Seem to provide more headache than convenience.

I have a Thermoworks temp spike xr and it works flawlessly. It also came with a signal booster.
This InkBird is inexpensive and rock solid. Wireless main module, but wired sensors. It’s a winner.

The MEATER for me has worked a lot better than the ThermoWorks RFX. The batteries keep failing in the RFX probes.

Yikes lol

I like my inkbird. I don’t bother with wifi, it has a display. I just don’t wanna have to deal with four cables going into my smoker, I don’t really care about being able to see it from my phone.
philbabytcb
Like others here, I’ve had mine for years, works fine, infrequent disconnects while cooking for at most 30 seconds a time, but nothing that would ruin a cook. A minor complaint that I have is that the proves are kinda thick and leave an “unattractive” hole in the finished product, but it’s not the worst thing in the world.

Unless you are doing rotisserie I don’t know why people hate wires so much

I have a single MEATER and it seems to work after a few hiccups in the beginning. What I don’t like is the app telling me when to pull something, ie a brisket, fully expecting it to get to the desired temp after it’s removed from the heat. It burned me once, so the next time, I reset it and pulled AT the temp I wanted. This took an additional 20-25 minutes! There was no way it was going to rise 10° after me pulling it off the heat, it’s not a steak! In any case, I use it to gauge temps that’s it. I’ll do the rest myself

Is there any type of warranty on those things? I see them advertised a lot

FireBoard all the way. Thermoworks also awesome, but my pellet has a built in FireBoard so I’m trying to be on one system

I had a Meater and it sucked… I replaced it with a Typhur Gold Quad, nice and solid. Stays connected.
HD-Guy1
I have a meater + that my son got me as a gift. Probably 4-5 years ago I just finally replaced the battery. My only issue is if you have to cover something with foil as part of your cook you have to make an opening and place the probe in or near the opening for it to read the sensor.
gamelover42
The best ones run on similar technology as old home wireless phones (2.4GHz). They have crazy long range and are very reliable

I’ll pay for shipping…..

I used the original and it worked ok. There were battery and connection issues occasionally. I got a MEATER pro and that worked much better in terms of battery life and connectivity as long as I keep the box right near my smoker. There is a difference between connectivity when I use the Weber gas grill and the thicker steel offset smoker. I want to try the Thermoworks product.
outoftym
I’ve had mine for over 3 years. Yeah, it sometimes has connection issues and goes through batteries quicker than I’d like, but it’s totally saved me from overcooking my Christmas prime rib on the rotisserie. I estimated 4.5 hours, it was alerting me in 2.5 hours!
The time estimates are super handy for long cooks, reverse-seared thick steaks and tri-tips. It lets me step away and do other stuff without stressing.
If you’re really tossing yours, I’ll gladly take it off your hands. 😉
Txstyleguy
I’ve been using the MEATER products for a couple of years and yeah the disconnection when not close to the source has been an issue. Mine works fine otherwise.
Toolivedrew65
Most accurate meater review I’ve seen. 10/10, no notes

Thermoworks is the only brand worth buying. Pay the extra. Half the equipment costs less than a brisket anymore.
jacksraging_bileduct
I’ve enjoyed using the thermopro temp spike, they have been good to me, only issue I’ve had is the need to make sure it’s charged if they have been sitting unused for a while.

Old school, Maverick wired. Works. Every. Single. Time.

TempSpike works well. Just disable the alarm noise for when it disconnects.

FireBoard. This is the way. Absolutely love it.

I’m really struggling not to do the same with mine… It cost me WAY too much to toss it, but man it’s a struggle
MechanicProof2255
I haven’t had issues with mine until about a week ago. Out of nowhere the temp was way under what it should have been. Ruined a perfectly good steak.

All these years I kept thinking that a small wireless “fancy marketing” product like the meater just had to be too delicate for real use.
anetworkproblem
Meater? I barely know her.

Damn, I always see people hating on meater but I’ve got a meater+ that I’ve used A LOT for the past 4 years and it hasn’t given me any problems. Just smoked a mean pork butt with it last week.
MUF-DVR1979
Also hate my meater

I stopped giving a shit about wireless thermometers. It doesn’t take me more than 10 minutes to walk out there and check

The thermo pro is my go to. Cheap, works, and easy to clean.

I have the Meater+ 2 and it’s junk. Was terrible tight out the box. Can’t hold connection in my drum and now it doesn’t even connect. My wired ThermoPro has never failed me

Seriously. I’m so mad at the “influencers” who peddled this when it came out. Just awful.
