I bought this in 2008. I moved from the mid Atlantic to Los Angeles and back and the egg kept smoking and grilling. Anyone have any issues with this cosmetic problem? Do I need to paint it over or leave it be? I expect more will flake off. How did you guys repair this?

If you’re first owner, it’s a warranty issue.

  2. That’s not good OP. Made on a Friday. You should see how bad the Primo grills break/blow up like that tho from poor craftsmanship

What’s the remedy if it’s not covered under warranty? I assume it should be sealed somehow

BGE sells touch-up paint on their website.

Spalling – “Ceramic spalling on a Big Green Egg occurs when the green glaze, which is not paint but a ceramic finish, flakes off due to high-temperature burns or other issues. While minor flaking may not affect performance, more significant spalling is a sign of a defect, and you should file a warranty claim with the original dealer as a registered original owner. For minor damage, you can use a specific Big Green Egg ceramic touch-up paint, but for structural damage, contact your dealer for a warranty replacement.”
