Husband asked me to meal plan for him so he can lose weight.

He is currently 206 and 5'9 with a goal of 175. He wants to cut hard so the goal is 1800cal a day. This feels like too much and I'm struggling to incorporate his protein goal of 160 grams at that calorie limit. He doesnt go to the gym but his job can be physical sometimes and he doesnt want to lose muscle.

Whenever I've dieted in the past I just ate more veggies to stay full, but the high protein goal is messing with me.

Any meal advice for high protein that stays low calorie??
He updated the protein goal after I made todays food which is why its lacking lol. How to I get another 40 grams in??? Do I just need to convince him to add 200 more calories?

Above is
Ham and veg frittata
Protein powder
Chicken and Rattatoui
Dense Bean Salad
Snacks lol

This was 1800cal and 120 grams protein

Can you convince him to lower his protein goal? 160 grams is excessive for his weight, especially if he isn’t strength training etc. 120g would be easily sufficient to not lose muscle whilst cutting, although any extreme weight loss will also cause muscle loss. Less extreme deficits will make muscle maintenance easier.

Is there a reason why he can’t meal plan for himself?

Looks amazing. Top tip for getting protein in is high protein, low fat yogurts / soft cheeses e.g. 150g of Lindahl’s Kvarg has 15g protein for 83 calories.

It’s definitely possible. I eat 120g of protein a day on 1200 calories when I’m cutting weight. I eat a lot of cottage cheese, skyr (basicaly Greek yogurt), chicken breast, and 30g of the protein is my post workout protein shake. I also eat the exact same thing every day. Changing it up takes way too much brain power and effort.

Try bulking up the frittata with egg whites, more protein for less calories.

Greek yogurt is 17g of protein for 90-100 calories (depending on the brand). Or you can get the Oikos pro cups, 20g of protein for 140 calories. Bulk the yogurt up with fruit, volume and low calorie.

Replace the Harvest Snaps with Quest chips. Quest chips are around the same amount of calories as the Harvest Snaps with 3 times the amount of protein.

String cheese is 7g of protein under 100 calories and would pair well with the meat stick.

Protein shakes. High protein, low calories, so many brands and flavors. If he likes a morning coffee they’re good to put in coffee.

In the bean salad, add a can of tuna and maybe reduce or eliminate chickpeas, depending how the macros shake out. Tuna is higher in protein and lower in fat than chickpeas.

  8. If he’s not lifting he doesn’t need that much protein. A protein shake per day is ez protein though, it tastes better the longer it “marinates” imo!

I wish my SO ate vegetables, it would make losing weight so much easier for him and I know he’d feel like he’s taking better care of his nutrition. We could also eat the same meals 🥲
