I love going to grocery stores in the morning(especially while foods). They always have insane sales like 50% off guac or fruit. What other hacks are you guys aware of around town?

  1. How much is the cost at 50%?

Mueller HEB annoys me because i feel like they never have reduced pricing and if they do it’s only 25% 🙁

  2. WearyEnthusiasm6643

getting old guac on sale is a life hack?

  3. renegade500

The HEB app. They have so many coupons in there. I always browse them and see what’s on a good sale that I like. Sometimes I adjust what I’m going to buy based on the sales or the combo Loco deals. And the app shows you how much you’ve saved for the year. Not to mention their meal suggestions/recipes along with adding the recipe ingredients right to your shopping list.

Which whole foods is this one? Just paid $8 at heb for Guac. Buyers remorse now🤣

  5. Gulf-Zack

I don’t think this is the hack you think it is.
WF guac still over $5 half off.
    Randall’s. Randall’s. Randall’s.
50% off meat, dairy, and bakery everyday.
Clearance section to literally go broke for.

  6. Tel3visi0n

SHHHHH you need to be quite about the 50% off at whole foods

Central market buy one get one free

Any discounted meat at the grocery store is a great deal. Make sure you smell it first, because sometimes it’s already gone bad. But if it hasn’t, cook it that night or just throw it in the freezer.

If you want to get a little more life hacky, take it out of the package and put it in a vacuum sealer or a ziplock bag. Then defrost, put it in a bowl of water that’s trickling a little bit, Or if you have a sous vide, put it in a container with that. It’ll defrost faster without wasting water.

Go to the supermercados and buy large avocados for something like $0.89 and 10 limes for a $1. That plus a few other little ingredients and you have easy delicious bowl of guac for less than $3 compared to the nearly $5 plastic container for a small $8 for a large at HEB. And you get to skip the additional plastic.

Costco, if your smart and don’t shop the snack and gadget section it’s always worth it, even as a single person.

Things I buy as a 2 person household
-wet Cat food reduces cost by $100/n
-meat if you prefer air-chilled chicken and 93% lean beef these are about 40% cheaper
-protein Orgain is 5$ cheaper for a can
    Berries- 30% cheaper for organic
    Cleaning supplies 50% cheaper
    Açaí Bowls 30% cheaper
Air fryer foods like chicken strips, French fries 50% cheaper
    Nuts: also about 50% cheaper
Parmesan, 50% cheaper, and it keeps for months. I skip the other cheeses as they go bad before I can use them

Costo, and Sam’s club is the answer. Costco if you like fancier/organic food and Sam’s if you want to cheapest.

The chicken and beef is all individually sealed so I buy and put them in the freezer.

I find that their produce tends to go bad quickly so I usually only really buy my berries and shiitake mushrooms at Costco and buy the rest at central market

There is also the famed $5 rotisserie chicken, but I personally don’t purchase them.

HEB app coupons actually help but so long as you still try to stick to essentials and don’t come out of there with a bunch of extra stuff you didn’t really need to or intend to buy

Comparing prices on the shelves by their cents per weight will tell you what is more bang for your buck also — my ex SIL who had six kids and was on a tight budget taught me that tip and it’s always helped

Too Good to Go app, restaurants/Whole Foods etc
Catch ‘em at the right time (by luck) and save soooo much cash

Haven’t used coupons or shopped in the morning will definitely try

I got three of those Pine Manor chickens that were ~10 bucks each at 2.75 lbs for half off. Vacuum froze them as I had the next weeks meals planned but that’ll be two dinner and five lunches for two people . Probably some leftovers too. Like less than a dollar per portion of great quality air chilled chicken

Download the Too Good To Go app. Total life changer on saving money at a lot of places.

Sometimes, Whole Foods has items on clearance for just five cents.

  17. This morning at HEB South Congress, I was about to buy ground beef with 25% off. Found a stack of 80/20 ground beef value packs at $1.99 a pound. I bought 15 pounds worth. Already cooked 5lbs and froze 10lbs.

On Tuesday’s, scan the preview ads for HEB, Randalls, and Sprouts. Plan your week shopping accordingly. Be prepared to hit the stores on Tuesday if a great sale is about to expire.

I go to Bill Miller’s near closing time, and they always offer the “manager special” where they will give you everything they have left for a super bargain. Like a family size meal of meat and sides for $10. & Same with Einstein bagels, they just throw out the leftover bagels every day so I went a few times near closing time and asked for leftovers and they give me trash bags full of bagels

  19. Randall’s does really good manager’s specials on their raw meat. It’s usually 35% off if expiring tomorrow, and often 50% off if the sell by date is today. I once got 1lb of pre-made turkey burger patties for $1.25 total. That’s for all four patties, not per-each. Usually priced at $5/lb.

I love HEB, but back when we were a single income household with kids, I shopped all the ads for all the stores. Safeway, if there’s one you can get to, often has fantastic loss leaders even in their meat department. Going to more than one store isn’t always the most efficient, but if you have the time and it won’t waste too much in gas it’s a good way to keep the grocery bill down.

  21. BarStar787

HEB often has wine and seltzers along with other random items on the clearance racks for 50% off. It’s my first stop in every store.

    I have three main ones:

    – Plan your shopping with [Flipp.com](https://flipp.com/) | The main sales flyers renew every Wednesday. Visit the website and find the stores you regularly shop at. You can search for your regular items and you’ll find which stores have these on sale. Best way to plan your shopping trips.

    – Try items and provide reviews | [Social Nature](https://www.socialnature.com/friend-referral/?referrer=friend-841250-091cd918-link) is a website with offers to try products. Some will be free while others will be BOGOs or percentile discounts. You just submit a photo of your purchase and get the money back. They will ask for a review afterwards. The platform will pay you back using Venmo.

    – [Aisle](https://discover.gotoaisle.com/offers) is another program where you can get cash back from your purchases. It’s similar to Social Nature but they seem to offer more products to try. No reviews necessary. They’ll show you the offers by location or just present every option as a long list.

I tend to combine a lot of offers together. I often see product in Social Nature with a BOGO that is mirrored over Aisle.

My main tip with these is just to grab what you need. At one moment I bought a case of drinks that I absolutely loathed. These were free but that was still a high price.

    I hope this helps y’all.

One of my hacks is never shopping at Whole Foods.

  24. MammothComplete2500

It is funny how quickly this devolved into an HEB stan thread. Total respect to them

  25. TwoFastTooFuriousTo

Super burrito. Taco Tuesday. $2.5 tacos. Really good deal

  26. AnyCondition7

Thanks! First time hearing about Too Good to Go. Just signed up and headed to Tiff’s Treats tomorrow for my first great deal!

  27. Mornings are good for 25% off deals on meat that will go bad the next day.

  28. elbowpastadust

Guac is incredibly easy to make yourself. Boom, food hacked.

  29. SubstantialReturns

My new one is trader Joe’s. They have kept the prices of their own brand down. Its become a good deal.

  30. yolatrendoid

How did I **NOT** know this?? I’m an actual native **and** obsessive about bargains!

That said, most of my food hacks are specific to restaurants. Plenty of places have happy hour specials for food in addition to drink, e.g. half-off apps at Launderette before 5pm. Unfortunately my favorite hack – half-price apps every night before 6pm in Jeffrey’s bar – is now only on Monday nights, and only 25% off food.

  31. mtrevino57

Invest in one of those jar vacuum gadgets and store your guacamole will keep for about a week without turning black

  32. fridamerx

Going to HMart near closing time also rules, they mark down the kimbap and other prepared foods by like 50-70% of the original cost as I would imagine they make it fresh each day.
