Just getting started with espresso, and trying to find the best grinder for my small budget. Purchased a Mignon Filtro recently, with the intent of swapping to Eureka's espresso burrs for less than the cost of a DF54.
I was pretty disappointed when unboxing the grinder – it has a faint smell of bearing grease or spray paint. The top cover is injection molded plastic that has warped and has sink marks. As a result of the warp, the cover doesn't sit right on the body of the machine, leaving weird seams. Even the "Filtro" decal is misaligned – what production line couldn't even be bothered to use a simple jig for applying decals… I work in consumer electronics, often visiting production lines in Asia. These sort of defects are characteristic of bottom tier contract manufacturers, issues that would have usually been caught when testing tooling or in QC. I realize $190 is cheap for a quality grinder, but am I being unrealistic for expecting fit and finish better than dollar store doodads? Given the poor quality of the exterior, I don’t have much confidence in the innards.
I chose the Mignon partially because of the online comments about build quality. OTOH, Eureka seems to go pretty far with segmenting their markets using what is essentially the same machine with different accessories. Maybe that's what's happening here and it's intentional?

This looks sloppy af.
I was considering a Eureka… now I’m reconsidering 😅
Where did you get it from? I’ve never seen a Eureka look that bad.
Shit… was this one of the made in China ones? I bought a Eureka Crono last year and mine was made in Italy. It does not look like that at all.
FYI, had plans to switch to espresso burrs and do have the burrs in a drawer. Realized the stock burrs work perfectly fine.
You have a warranty you can ask someone about. One warped panel like this probably has no effect on the motor, but if it does, again, you have the warranty.
I had mine assembled incorrectly. May 2024. Bought it in Australia and the seller gave me a replacement.
They had routed some wiring the wrong way and just mashed the plastic over the top of it.

Mine was built solid and very good fit and finish. Looks like things have gone downhill. Mind you, it is Italian soooo… 🤷🏾♂️
The answer is simple: get an RMA from the retailer.
It’s not intentional. 🤦
Never attribute to malice what can be attributed to incompetence.
Eureka has a very goog reputation. Maybe this unit fell to the floor and is warped?
No mine came in perfect, the craftsmanship was insanely good. I couldn’t find even one defect.
I had 3 new Eureka Mignon Zero (2 as new warranty replacements) and the quality is definitely not what I was expecting. I will go against what everybody says and tell you the craftmanship is far from perfect. Maybe in the past the situation was different.
It’s italian… what did you expect? Precise engineering?
It feels like this thing has been dropped or was somehow damaged or perhaps isn’t as new as you think.
They are built well and my specialita came in perfect condition.
Official or not I’d contact the seller in a heartbeat.
That top cap is very warped, mine sits on straight.
In regards to the build quality. I’m in the process of modding mine and blew up some parts because Eureka switched red and black (=normally ground) around! In all my many years working in electronics never have I ever seen that.
(yes i should have checked, but still…)
Its like an Alfa Romeo probably, you don’t buy it for the craftsmanship but for the „esprit“.
Jokes aside my single dose pro is fine as far as I can tell fit and finish wise. Made in Italy.
If you think this is bad, wait until you see a Fellow product. I have a Eureka Mignon and recently bought a Fellow Ode for my wife and it was shocking.
I returned it as it was damaged, they opened another fresh box from fellow and that too had multiple scratches and dents from the factory. wtaf
Eureka is built solid IMO
No, your expectations are well within reason. Eureka quality is atrocious. My Oro XL was also extremely poorly made.
Like my mignon is built like a Tank.
Such a solid build.
I wonder why yours look like that? Maybe it has fallen or something
For what it’s worth, I purchased a Eureka Mignon Libra 65 All Purpose earlier this year and the finish was flawless. I think mine was made in Italy though. I’m not home so I can’t verify.
Not at all, my Eureka isn’t like that at all
