I had the chance to enjoy a lineup of bottles with Nicola Gatta himself — such a fun and eye-opening experience. His winery is based in Gussago, in the easternmost part of Franciacorta, but he doesn’t label his wines under the DOCG. Instead, he works outside the appellation, following a more artisanal, terroir-driven approach.

Gatta focuses on long aging on the lees (often 60+ months), minimal intervention, and a philosophy he calls “Metodo Alchemico” — a personal interpretation of sparkling winemaking that highlights purity, minerality, and patience. The results are elegant, complex wines that stand apart from the typical Franciacorta profile.

Here’s the table at the end of the night — an amazing lineup to taste through.
