Yesterday, the wife wanted veggie burgers for the LD cookout. All of my other grilling surfaces have meaty residues, so I broke out the Soapstone, which I seasoned according to the directions and rubbed down with Avocado oil before heating. Got the dome temp up to about 350F and cooked the patties. I scraped most of the crusty stuff off right away, but this greasy stain is persistent.
I know not to use soap and water, but any advice on how to remove it? I used a bamboo dish brush with more Avovcado oil but it didn’t really help.

I never knew cooking directly on the soapstone was a thing…
I wouldnt.
Scrape it off lightly and turn around the next cook. The flames/heat will burn off the residue as you continue to cook on the clean side. Repeat next time!
I hated the soap stone. This thing requires a burn to clean. It’s a pain to get up to temp. You are better off with a cast iron flat top. Does the same thing 1/4 of cost and 100x easier to clean.
I like the soap stone.
Looks prettig clean to me, it don’t look like that much Longer🤣. Mine is almost black and cant get that beautiful texture back
lol. Those aren’t going anywhere. And after you use it more than once ever… it’s gonna be black. So at least then you won’t see it as much.
I’m fairly certain that’s seasoning. It’s not going to come off unless you use around 500F or more depending on what it came from (I think). And even then it might still have a mark. Or sand it off but that would make an uneven layer. It’s no longer food though so I would argue it’s okay to cook on.. but I understand needing to cater to the no meat crowd. If you felt like it you could mark one side veggie and one side meat. Water wipe while hot and that’s all I ever do to clean it. Like a griddle. This way you’re 100% not getting meat on your veggies. There is the issue of juices dripping and clinging to the underside at the edges. But the heat should take care of that. You can easily etch V or something into the corner. I have had to do something similar with people who don’t eat beef.
