Here’s what you need:
½ iceberg lettuce, chopped
½ bunch fresh dill, chopped
½ bunch shallots, thinly sliced
¼ cup olive oil
½ lemon (zested and juiced)
100g feta cheese, crumbled
2 tbsp capers + 1 tbsp of their brine
Salt, pepper, dill pickle chips for serving
Toss it all together and serve with chips because everything is better with chips.
Did you know that in ancient Egypt, lettuce was seen as an aphrodesiac? I can’t promise you this will be nature’s love potion. But what I can do is show you a really delicious way to eat it. Welcome to another episode of my Greekish series. Today I’m putting you on to something fresh, something tasty, something crunchy, something lemony. The marulo salata. Marui means lettuce. And salata, you guessed it, means salad. So that’s it. That’s what this is. A lettuce salad. But don’t leave me. It’s good. I promise. All you do for this is chop up your lettuce, dill, shallots. I also like to put capers and then crumple on your feta. Top with extra virgin olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Toss, toss, toss, and eat it as it is, or with chips. I like it with chips because I like everything with chips. Now, did I need to make a whole video recipe of this salad that is 95% lettuce? Probably not. But it’s young, it’s easy, it’s Greek, and apparently it’s um energizing.
