A street vendor selling omelettes *without* Monster or Fanta? You’re posting on the wrong sub buddy!

To be honest this i do not agree with. Bread is a food of poor people. I know because i am from one. We have bread desserts, dishes any kind of food made with bread. So if your purpose is to not be hungry bread is an amazing thing.
* This comment is purely ignoring the fact that even through the video you can get dysentery. Food is not the stupid part here, it is necessary.

Its unclean, sure. But there is absolutely nothing stupid about this.
Sure, you could argue its poorly or even wrongly made french toast, but its like, eggs and bread fried together at its purest form. It’s low quality, not stupid.

With some sauce and ignoring the rats I bet this is pretty good honestly

This is not stupid food. This is shitty situation.

What was the brown thing he put under the newspaper?
kewkkid
To play the devil’s advocate, the tools he uses don’t seem that dirty and basically he made an omelette sandwich.
The only thing I disliked other than the rats, floor, cooking area was the newspaper.
If it was made in a more hygienic area, I’d definitely eat this!

Before this gets absolutely ratioed I’m going to say this looks decent. Just an awkward looking French toast and terrible conditions. But not stupid food.
Schemen123
The food looks good.. but hygiene did not just leave the building.. it also got eaten by a rat…

Are we making fun of poverty again or why is this stupid?

Would I try the dish in general? Yeah.
Would I try this particular dish made in this environment? No.
It’s just eggs and bread, two things I eat all the damn time. Just a weird version of french toast. Hell, you could probably dust it with powdered sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and treat it as such, with a side of syrup.
Or treat it as a savory type of omelette. Shallots, finely chopped bell, mushrooms and some sharp cheddar cheese on top and some hot sauce.

This is just advanced eggy bread

The good isn’t stupid. it’s just not sanitary. I mean, there is the recipe going around that is basically the same thing, but you used sliced bread and made an eg sandwich with it.
Watched it again. Honestly if I had to choose between eat this and the $1000 raw tomahawk steak from a few days ago… idk i might just choose this and a bottle of rum.

People are calling this a poverty meal but it’s really not. It’s a common dish in India, in this case being made on the street, by someone who’s just tryna earn an honest wage, for people who can’t afford to eat in cafes or restaurants and need something quick and filling and tasty on the go.
I make this at home too, and if you want to try it, it’s really easy and tasty. Just beat 2 eggs together, add half a finely diced onion, half a finely diced tomato, some sliced green chilies or if you prefer, diced green pepper (I do both), and some freshly chopped coriander/cilantro leaves. Add salt and black pepper to taste. Heat up your pan, I use cast iron but nonstick also works, add a lil oil or butter, pour the eggs in and let them set on the bottom but not fully on top. Take a nice slice of sourdough or even a crusty baguette (but sliced bread from the supermarket works too), butter one side, and set it in the middle of the eggs, butter side UP. Flip the whole thing, let the bread get fried/toasted on the other side, the smell will tell you when it’s done. Flip again, serve with, as many have suggested, a nice hot and sweet sauce. Sweet chilli, sriracha, spicy ketchup, whatever you like. GOES HARD. Amazing breakfast or evening snack with coffee.

fried bread with egg is nothing odd.

Guys, I just want to say that this is actually delicious, and probably amongst the most popular (actual) street food in India. It’s not a French toast, the bread doesn’t absorb the egg at all. It’s basically a spicy omelette sandwich where the bread is stuck to the omelette. You douse it with ketchup.
Minus the rats of course (that is charged extra). And people shocked at the newspaper use have never had a traditional fish and chips (although now I guess it’s food grade paper).

I feel like the guy would be good Cook if he had better equipment and a clean place to work.

Bread Omlette is a pretty well known dish around here
bioticspacewizard
The food is not at all stupid. But the exploitation of the street vendors for this kind of content certainly is.
Virtual_Football909
How is this dumb? It’s decent usage of bread and eggs. Yes it’s an unclean environment, but at home I would consider cooking it.
wookiewithabrush
It’s just eggy bread, looks like he’s been fending off the rats with that pan though.

I make egg sandwiches like this all the time. Some folks don’t have a better environment to cook in, so,….. Not stupid food.
