PITTSTON, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — In a kitchen filled with warmth, laughter, and the smell of fresh ingredients, young adults with autism are discovering recipes, creativity, and friendship.
Every first Wednesday of the month, Coffee Inclusive offers a free cooking class for young adults with autism.
The program serves up essential kitchen skills, including mixing, baking, and crafting delicious, healthy meals.
Passing the plate, program organizer Sophia Mazaleski, shared how the classes got their start.
“This was a grant that we were given by Autism Awareness NEPA, which is a great organization that invests in the community for people with autism and other intellectual disabilities. And Brian, here is our head baker and our head facilitator of this class. He works one-on-one with the students to make sure that they’re comfortable,” said Sophia Mazaleski.
Stirring up fun treats with every season, head baker Brian Boston told us about the variety in the cooking classes.
“But we’ve done, fruit cups with the fruit salad was the first one. We’ve done parfaits. We’ve done smoothies and juice. For the holidays. I already taught, I was brought up this idea about each holiday. So around October time will be in October. Then Thanksgiving will be Thanksgiving,” said Brian Boston.
The next cooking class will be held on October 1st at Coffee Inclusive.
