September is here and that means it’s holiday preview time! I was thrilled to be invited to a media dinner featuring a tasting menu at Abrielle on King Street West in Toronto. Located in The Sutton Place Hotel, this conveniently-located restaurant serves exquisite Coastal Mediterranean cuisine. When I arrived on a Wednesday evening, it was clear that many people had dropped in for a quick dinner before the Toronto Blue Jays game!

I was offered a drink while I waited in the low-key cocktail lounge adjacent to the restaurant. We then had a tour of the hotel before being led to a private dining room where we enjoyed the following four-course tasting menu prepared with attention to detail by Executive Chef Andrés Jaramillo:

First Course:

Pumpkin Seed Trempette – Rich and creamy without being heavy!
Olives – Briny, salty and delicious!
Burrata – Delicate and creamy, this burrata was anything but bland due to the accompanying chermoula sauce (parsley, cilantro, garlic and cumin), and fresh mint.

Second Course:

Halloumi – This mild, tangy cheese was enhanced with honey, lavender and nigella seeds for a sweet and bitter flavour profile.
Cauliflower – Pine nuts and pickled chili elevated this roasted cauliflower! A winner!
Endives – Orange and sherry vinaigrette complemented the bitterness of the endives.

Third Course:

Whole Sea Bream – This fish was so tender, it melted in my mouth!
Giannone Chicken – The chicken was tender, but not as memorable as the fish!
Patatas Bravas – The bravas sauce and garlic aioli added some heat to these potatoes, which looked so pretty.
Charred Broccolini – Always a favourite of mine, this veggie was charred just enough!

Chef’s selection of desserts – I did not try these as I don’t eat sugar.
