500 g (1 lb) beef (chuck, shoulder, or round)

4–5 medium potatoes

2 carrots

1 large onion

2 cloves garlic

1 bell pepper (red or green)

2 tomatoes or 200 ml (¾ cup) tomato juice

2 tbsp oil or lard

1 tsp paprika powder

1 bay leaf

salt and black pepper to taste

fresh parsley for garnish

about 1 liter (4 cups) water or broth

Instructions:

Heat oil in a pot, sauté chopped onion and garlic until translucent.

Add diced beef and sear until browned.

Stir in sliced carrots and chopped bell pepper, cook a few more minutes.

Add tomatoes or tomato juice and mix well.

Season with paprika, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.

Pour in water or broth to cover the ingredients, then simmer on low for about 40 minutes.

Add diced potatoes, top with more water if needed, and cook for another 20–30 minutes until tender.

Finish with freshly chopped parsley and serve hot.
