I’ve been using the Spider Venom with the SnS. Overall it has been working great despite both companies saying that their products would work better when not combined. However, I was interested in more traditional indirect cooking.

One issue with the combo is that there seemed to be temperatures the Venom + SnS combo struggled with, particularly 275 degrees. The combo would hold temps perfectly at 225 and 375, but would oscillate +/- 25 degrees at 275. I’m not sure why. It wasn’t an issue that impacted the quality of cooking/smoking but was annoying to look at on a graph.

Enter the Onlyfire ceramic insert. I only received it yesterday, but have done two test runs. The first one at 375 to cook some chicken thighs. It was able to hold that temp perfectly steady until I ran out of fuel which was my fault.

The second run was at 275 this morning and so far it has been holding 275 within a couple degrees for almost 8 hours now.

The higher thermal mass seems to a benefit for the Venom. I tried pausing the Venom, opening the lid to release some heat, waiting 3 mins to restart the Venom after recovery, and then seeing how it recovered. I was pleasantly surprised that it went right back to 275.

More testing to come, but I haven’t seen many reviews of this product combo yet and wanted to share for anyone interested.
