Today, it’s all about the herb oregano. We all know it’s a staple in our kitchens, especially in Italian dishes, but did you know that oregano has incredible health benefits too?

these are seven steps that get anyone started on a healthy diet on a healthy lifestyle you may be surprised what those seven steps are you may think you already know it all or then again maybe you looking forward to I’m going to share with you seven reasons why you need to add oregano into your health plan let’s look at the first one which is antibacterial properties now if you’ve been following me on the grocery Discovery you know I say antibacterial antibacterial so many times and so this means what it does is it stops the growth of a bacteria a bad bacteria in your body now we get introduced to bad bacteria more often than you realize this is why I teach so much about gut health when your gut is healthy with good bacteria it will always fight the bad bacteria and you’re not even going to know that there was a battle going on you’re going to be enjoying your day and not interrupted but if we don’t have enough good bacteria we’re not going to be able to fight the bad bacteria well this is where these herbs come in and say hey I’ll fight for you yes and many times your gut healing supplements will have these extracts in it because of that property because of the antibacterial property so oregano is used around the world to treat staff infections and even pomonis so these are bacteria infections that that can really set people back a lot oregano is also used to kill food poisoning bacteria like as ecoli or salmonella leria also it helps with hpylori so you they’ve done some studies with the combination of oregano oils and cranberry extract that helps to kill this bacteria H pylori bacteria the second health benefit is anti-inflammatory you may notice as you follow me in the grocery Discovery I say that a lot about the foods that I’m talking about because it’s true most of God’s plant foods are going to have an anti-inflammatory effect that’s just the way God designed it inflammation says hey something’s wrong we need to fix it anti-inflammatory says hey I got it I’ll take care of it when we don’t pay attention and when we don’t eat the foods in the design that God gave us we are the ones who suffer so this herb is in that category as well the oil of the oregano can have wound healing properties and has even been found to be used in many skin care products because of that now colitis that’s inflammation of the digestive system it can help calm that it has helped with this it decreases this and it’s also has an anti-inflammatory effect against many other diseases such as metabolic disorders and yeast overgrowth all right number three it’s an antioxidant oregano has 42 times more antioxidant properties than Apples there you go it has 30 times more antioxidant properties than our resistant starch potatoes it has 12 times more antibiotic properties than um our oranges and four times more antioxidant properties than blueberries oregano is also very useful in healing upper respiratory disorders according to the lung Institute it works as a natural decongestant and antihistamine moving on it’s also anti-cancer in 2013 researchers concluded that oregano could help prevent and treat breast cancer and slow its progression if you follow us on the biblical nutrition.com in our blog about oregano you’re going to see several different charts on how this works and how you can apply it and so I definitely want you to go there and check that [Music] out when I say this it just seems unbelievable it’s like Annette well how can it be as strong as the chemo and things like that I’m not ever comparing drugs with God’s Foods I’m just teaching you what God’s Foods what the properties are in it and how you might be able to talk that over with your doctor antiviral this is huge studies in the lab show evidence that is very effective against human neuro viruses and lastly parasites parasites like bad bacteria they kind of come in without you knowing it well parasites can cause constipation gas bloody stools well oregano has been proven to destroy the parasites and in this in one study they did with 34 people it was 30 people that it totally got rid of the parasites well so there are two very powerful compounds found in oregano that were the reason why it is so effective against parasites now you may say well I don’t know that I have parasites that’s okay I’d rather not know I have parasites I’d rather just consume some oregano enjoy the benefits and move on and let my body just do what it’s supposed to do so many benefits between food poisoning bacterial inflammation anti-cancer parasites it just makes it just an allaround healthy food to add to your diet and it tastes so good who doesn’t love Italian dishes so how do you enjoy this aromatic Herb in your cooking and your health first of all I have some oregano here that I just picked out of my garden you can kind of see let me just separate it here pull this out so this is a sprig of oregano what you can do is you see these tender shoots right here you can just take that out and just chew on that and when you do it’s going to help give you Clarity of mind and sometimes it helps settle a stomach as well so that’s one way of enjoying oregano but you may say Anette I don’t have oregano grow in my yard okay at the end of this video I’m going to tell you you need to start growing oregano in your yard I planted this 10 years ago and I’m still enjoying it I dehydrate it I use it all year round now don’t get hung up on the dehydrating although it’s my favorite thing to do I just feel like I’m saving everything and not throwing anything away but yet if you can’t dehydr it most of our Winters are fairly mild so I can still go out in the yard any time of the year all 12 months and pick it and use it in a recipe but spring and summer are the best because you get these young tender leaves and they are so aromatic so when the leaves are aromatic that means it has the essential oil the essential oil is what gives us the health benefits so you can have fresh oregano in growing in your yard and as you can see they have a beautiful purple flower now these are almost at the end of their blooming season so they’re not quite as pretty as they normally are so here’s how I want you to enjoy it I want you to just go ahead and start growing oregano I want you to pinch a sprig and just chew on it when you need it also I want you to use it as a bouquet because having your herbs is a and a fresh bouquet on your table is just a reminder of everything that God is doing in your life of all the goodness so those are just a couple fun ways when it comes to cooking you can add these tender leaves into your soups into your bone broth in fact if I was doing bone broth I would add the stem and everything uh the flowers yes you can add those too glad you asked and so I would add those in your bone broths your soups your stews and your sauces any red sauce you can add oregano to you can even add it to a white sauce a lot of Italian white sauces would be delicious so anytime you have basil parsley garlic onions thyme in a recipe you can have oregano all right that’s the beauty of it so in order to get the medicinal benefits though you need either chop it or crush it we have to release those oils so that our body gets the benefit of that plant you may say Annette I don’t have fresh oregano growing in my yard okay then you can buy organic oregano at the store it’s fairly inexpensive now here’s what I want you to know you do not buy spices in bulk because you only want to buy a little and then use it as you as you get it you do not want spices in your cabinet that have been there five and 10 years I know we all have them I probably probably have some too that have been up there 10 years like oh yeah I used it for for that one dish and I haven’t made that dish in since you know 2010 and a special Thanksgiving we have so you need to understand spices I have a great video on spices be sure and watch that a lot of good information so if you’re going to buy it from the store just buy small quantities even this is a fairly large amount if I’m not going to use it when you buy it from the store you want to open it up and smell it and if you do not have a good smell you need to pitch all of it because no smell means no aromatic oil no essential oil which means no health benefits and this actually means no flavor so it’s a waste it’s just it’s just specks on your food another thing to remember when you have dried herbs whether you dehydrate them yourself or you buy dried herbs they need to pour out see if you can see that on video they need to pour out just like that like salt if there’s ever a clump in it you pitch all of it we do not need mold or bacteria in our in our body okay so we want it to pour out just like salt just like that so there we have a a a a spice that is still in good condition now like I said we don’t need very much because it doesn’t take much to flavor our dishes but as you’re learning today about the benefits of oregano you may be using it a lot more so fresh is best but if not use dried and if you don’t have a dehydrator you can dry it in the oven or you can do like I do just keep going out in the middle of winter and cutting new sprigs of oregano to use in your dishes so just remember spices without smell and flavor are useless just toss the entire thing out if this clumps toss it out if it doesn’t smell good toss it out all right now here are your three takeaways from this talk number one grow your own oregano plant it once enjoy it for years you can even share it with your friends and neighbors because it keeps growing it doesn’t grow like a mint which overwhelms you and fills the entire Garden it grows Within in its own area and it stays there it gives you pretty flowers it gives you great flavor plant it once enjoy it for years number two start adding more herbs to your cooking whether you got fresh whether you got dried whether you buy it from the store start adding more herbs to your cooking the essential oils are going to do the same thing so you could also add essential oils into your medicinal plan I’ll put some links to those down below as well and number three praise the Lord for the good things he has given you in Exodus 15:26 he says I am the Lord who heals you always remember healing is always of the lord it’s not from a plant it’s not from a doctor it’s not from an oil it’s not from a pill healing is always from the lord it’s the way he designed your body and it’s the way he works within your life I hope this has I’m 63 and never once heard this information from my own doctor. This knowledge is life-saving, and I’ll be applying it immediately.
The oregano plants we've bought the last 2yrs have died within 2mths. They never did have an aroma. 🙁 Italian…I add dried to everything. Hmmm, oregano plants actually have leaves over a cm big? No idea what we've been buying but the leaves were tiny, no smell, no real growth, & usually die fairly quickly.
