A visit by their father five years ago birthed the idea for a new restaurant for brothers, Ahmad and Hani Kamani, owners of Kristy’s Family Restaurant.
“Dad came for an extended visit and was bored. We decided to put him to work fixing kabob dinners and other Mediterranean dishes. We offered them as specials at Kristy’s and the people loved it,” said Hani.
Recently, the brothers were able to acquire the former home of Santa Fe Grill, which they have completely renovated. The Grape Leaf is now open and serving American favorites, as well as more exotic flavors.
“We’ve noticed people trying the Mediterranean dishes instead of going for the more familiar fare. So far, they are loving it. Our prices are a little bit upscale, but not out of the budget. Average dinner prices run around $12 to $13 with soup and salad included in the meal.
“We offer everything from burgers to a 24-ounce Porterhouse steak, breakfast burritos to salmon. The vegetables are freshly sautéed in extra virgin olive oil — not canned. And our tomato basil soup and hot fudge volcano cake are to die for,” Hani said.
Other specialty items on the menu include crepes, chocolate chip and strawberry/banana pancakes, lamb kabobs and chops, baklava, falafel, gyros, Sojonk (spicy) sandwiches, Italian cream cake, Tabouli and Greek salads, and sweet green iced tea.
The Grape Leaf offers red lentil soup every day plus a soup of the day. Tomato basil soup is served on Mondays.
Diners will find a special menu for children and seniors.
The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. They are open from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday.
Breakfast is served only on Saturday and Sunday. Weekend hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday.
The Grape Leaf accepts all major credit cards, but no checks.
Reservations are encouraged for parties of six or more — please call 446-3930 or e-mail thegrapeleaf@gmail.com. The newly renovated facility can handle groups of 25 to 30 very comfortably.
“Everything is new, roomy, comfortable, and energy efficient. Come see us; we’d love to serve you,” Hani said.
