When closing the lid, it seems to rub against the lower edge and thus the gasket doesn’t seem to say in place very long. There is a really nice seal that sits nicely when closed.
1. Does the gasket seam need to be in the back or can I do it around the edge somewhere?
2. Is there a way (suggestion or video link) how to adjust the lid for a little more clearance when opening or closing?
Thoughts or help appreciated.

  1. I recently had a somewhat similar issue, but my issue had to do with getting the pizza wedges to sit correctly because the back was pinching down sooner that the rest of the dome

You have the older hinges on your egg. Upgrading with new belts and hinges will almost certainly fix this issue.

Before buying anything, you could also try adjusting the upper band around your egg to see if you can create a tad more clearance without losing a good seal

You have the old style band. They make a new one that is much easier to adjust. You can find YouTube videos that show you how to adjust your band if you want to try that. If it were me I’d want the gasket to be all the way around.

Bottom band is too low at the back. Raising it SHOULD fix it but I’ll admit I’ve adjusted my bands many times and I still have an underbite.

I think raising the bottom band will fix you up though.

I recently replaced my old style band (the one you have) with a new one because the hinge was all rusted out. Aligning the old was was a bit of a PIA as I’d done it once or twice. The style is so easy to install and align it’s hard to believe. Even though your hinge assembly looks to be in good shape I’d consider it.

I have a large with this hinge set up.

Your bands are not on correctly. They need adjustment. Parallel to each other. Parallel to the joint. Evenly spaced from the joint. Bolts will be crazy bent when properly tightened. Looks terrible but that is as designed.

Add the missing piece of gasket back

Remove springs. Easier with lid open. Stick or helper.

Measure gap at the hinges between the two bands. Lets say it is 1/2″. This is the gap you want all the way around between both bands.

Now the slightly trickier part. You want the bands 1/4″ from the joint in the gasket. IE top band 1/4″ up and bottom band 1/4″ down. All the way around. Watch the pips in the bands so they go back in the dimples at the front.

Your mesurements may be slightly different. but not too far. Use metric if it is easier. No need for calipers or verneers.

    Tighten band bolts.

Test gap for low spots with dollar bill or bills in the joint. It should be snug all the way around. THIS is a better test with all new gasket.

Reattach springs. Open and close a few times and recheck with the dollar bill. Hopefully all is good.

I do not use mine often enough. I do enjoy it.

    Best wishes.

Quite a number of good videos on You Tube. Keeping it even/level and aligned is the key.

    EDIT

In reviewing your images it appears that your grill also has an UnderBite. This is a function of how the hinges are attached to the band. I have not had this problem.

I believe that after getting the bands sorted out. You LOOSEN all 8 nuts for the hinges re align top and bottom to be even all the way around. wiggle hinge set around (probably with the springs off) to its happy spot and then in multiple passes tighten the hinge nuts evenly. like finger tight . then lightly with a wrench. Then tighter with a wrench until you are happy in several passes. Like doing head bolts on a vehicle.

    Put springs back on

I’d stop dealing with the old hinge assembly and upgrade to the new design. I believe I paid around $90 for mine a few years ago.
