A historic Wavertree pub building is about to reopen as a restaurant. Myra Mediterranean will open in the former Love Bar premises, located inside the old Woodcroft pub at the corner of Smithdown Road and Bagot Street.
The site has stood empty for more than a year after the sudden closure of Love Bar. The front door was broken, with surrounding brickwork falling apart in various locations around the entrance after the previous tenant vacated the building, leaving it in disrepair.
Metal railings have been placed around the building while renovations get underway inside. A large banner has been placed on the right of the building telling customers Myra Mediterranean Restaurant is “coming soon”.
Announcing its arrival on Instagram, a statement reads: “Exciting news! Myra Mediterranean Restaurant is opening soon at 279 Smithdown Rd, Liverpool L15 2HF!

“Get ready to enjoy authentic Mediterranean flavours, freshly prepared dishes, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Stay tuned for our grand opening – we can’t wait to welcome you!”
The exterior has changed colour a number of times over the past few years after being painted yellow, pink, white, blue, then green.
The building has seen numerous businesses recently occupy the premises. In August 2022, the venue opened as Love Bar by the owners of the nearby Late Night convenience store.
A business named Roma Bar also used the building for a short stint before Love Bar. Before then, the building was occupied by Landmark Indian Restaurant and Shisha Bar, which is believed to have closed in early 2017.

Most will remember the building as the Woodcroft Hotel, rebuilt as a pub under the same name in the 1920s. The two-sided, split level venue came with a spacious beer garden and was used as a public house by the community.
The pub was known for its eye-catching colour schemes, having been painted both pink and a distinctive shade of blue.
Woodcroft endured several fires and closures before shutting permanently more than a decade ago.
An opening date for Myra Mediterranean is yet to be confirmed.
