Bought on a whim because I’ve wanted to do a birth year wine but usually forget until it’s too late. This was…not great. I knew 93 wasn’t a great vintage for champagne but this popped up at the right time and I suppose a decent price.
Popped with the family on my birthday, my notes are wildly simple – a lot of this wine gave me vibes similar to Sauternes. Effervescence was almost entirely gone, but slight tiny little bubbles were still doing their thing. Nose was surprisingly(?) fairly alive and fresh with apple and brioche. Tasting wise, it had a *bit* of zippiness and acidity, but overall pretty muted. Aftertaste was heavy on the Sauternes notes (at least based on what I’ve had like Château Guiraud), apricot, honey, tropical fruits in general.
Overall not amazing, but my first foray into aged champagne and didn’t pay a crazy amount for it. Enjoyed the time with my family so that’s the main goal, right? Next year I have to go Tokaji for sure.

Put me firmly in the camp of not super interested in really old sparkling wines. Give me a recent release cremant and I’ll spend my money elsewhere

I’ve always wanted a P3 and had the chance to pick up a 1993 P3 when I was in France last year. Got home and bought a P1 93 as well.
Looking to do a vertical of both bottles. My birth year was a no release year so this was the closest I could get.
Thanks for sharing. You’ve inspired me to do my tasting sooner than later

Had La Mission and La Grande Dame 1993 at New Years about three years ago. Both were excellent. Try to get your hands on one of those 😌

Judging on a single photo, but this looks like the cork wasn’t giving a perfect seal for some reason (could be bad cork, could be bad storage). A ’93 should still have fairly pronounced effervescence, reduced for sure but very present, and the color looks way too deep a gold. Too much oxygen getting in, and CO2 getting out
