Some things to make you aware regarding this shopping visit: No coupons, no perks used, if store brand looks like a good substitute for brand name I bought it and this was not planned for a week of meals. Also, we have plenty of food storage so we use that along with current purchases for meals.
I wanted to see how the “more expensive store” looked for us given no major efforts taken to cut costs (couponing). The store is Giant Eagle.

As an FYI, the cans of tomatoes were 28 oz cans

I only use Giant Eagle for pop/cereal/yogurt sales anymore. They can sometimes have really good exclusive to me deals in their perks like 4.25 off on cereal combined with the 2/5 they already had on sale and $1 mfc made the cereal free. Aldi and local owned groceries for everything else.
Just looking at lemons, limes and carrots you can get a bag of each from costco for $5.00 with prob has 10-12 of each. 6lb organic carrots $6.99. yes, there’s a membership fee but a HH of 1 can break even with an executive membership if you get gas there. HH of 2 by buying your staples there.
Burger for $3.99¿ wow, good sale. Beef is outrageous.
Im in suburban MN, our most popular chain, Cub Foods, has prices similar or higher than what you paid. And its not an upper tier store. I don’t buy much there anymore. I was about to say this crap is getting out of hand but no, it already IS out of hand
looks pretty thrifty on your part. only thing that jumps out at me is the fage. store brand greek yogurt is ~$2 cheaper for the 32 ounce container vs fage here in north jersey.
Do you have a Costco? I’m cringing at the milk prices and a few others.
Yeah, my husband did grocery shopping this morning, for the first time since tariffs have hit. He’s going to need a moment, lol
Can you get store brand Greek yogurt? It’s usually much cheaper. I usually get nuts at Lidl or Aldi instead of the regular grocery store because the markup is very high.
Those prices are really low.
Aldi
Giant Eagle is one of the most prohibitively expensive grocery stores in that region. Originally from Pittsburgh so can confirm. Publix down south here is just as bad. I shop walmart but wont buy their meat unless its chicken. Aldi meat is okay to mehhhh sometimes. BJs and Sams usually has better pricing per pound however you DO have to buy in bulk so sometimes for people I understand that can be daunting.

Who in their right mind pays $10 for almonds?
Buddy, in Trump’s America you better believe buying “DEI Tomatoes” is gonna cost extra
Dont do a bulk of your shopping at Giant Eagle my friend. Go for the sales but get everything else at Aldi.
(I recognize the GE receipt hah)
Whoa. That’s so cheap. Toronto here
My life saver was finally given Aldi a chance.
I wouldn’t pay those prices for blackberries or avocado. I only buy the fresh berries when they’re less than $2 and avocado less than $1.
