[Music] Mel. [Music] Hey. Well, good morning and welcome to another one of Rich and Jen’s adventures in the kitchen. And today, guys, it is Labor Day morning and we are going to go over to Richie and Jessica’s for a barbecue. Yeah. So, we are going to make a peanut butter pie. Oo, you love peanut butter pies. I do. I’m ready for fall. Rich, do a quick pan and show them my fall decorations. Mostly in the dining room. Well, we’ll just stick with the dining room. Yeah. And I love this is September 1st. Makes me feel all fallish. Even got them outside. A little flag. Yep. And uh I’m wearing my apron that I got from Lancaster. Lancaster. I got it at that market where I got my garbage can last year. What was that? The bird in hand. Yes, bird in hand. We got that. So, all right. Well, let’s get started. Oh, I also have what is my Ray Dunn fall coffee cup. Did you see that, Rich? It says happy fall. Ray Dunn. Is that a designer or something? You just let on that you were really a man. Yeah. Well, no clue. Most women know Ray Dunn. She does all of the things like the utensil holders and all the things that have the big. But anyway, I thought that was so cute I had to get it. So, anyway, enough small talk. First thing we’re going to do is we’re going to make the crust. Now, to make the crust, you do nine whole graham crackers. How come we got one out there like that? Let me tell you something. Each sleeve has a nine. So, I had to open Wait a minute. You only You need nine. You need 10. Oh, you need 10. Yes. So, um what we’ve got is 10. Nine. That’s a weird number to I know. To put in a sleeve. We have nine whole graham crackers. Chocolate. Oh, excuse. We have 10 whole graham crackers. We have three tablespoons of sugar and 1/4 of a cup of melted butter. And what we’re going to do first is bake off our crust. So, we’re going to throw all of our crumbs in here. Probably going to make a mess, so just bear with me. Now, that’s your small chopper. Yeah, cuz I didn’t really need the big one today. And I’m going to do this. I get two batches, huh? Yeah. I’m going to have to do it in a couple batches because it is uh it’s just easier to clean this thing. Well, I imagine you can’t lift up the other. Wow, I didn’t really [Music] There’s still a big one in there. No, got it all. And if there’s any that are not, I’ll just pick them out. So, we have one. And any big ones? There is just two little getaways there. You put a lot in that last batch. Yeah. So, we’ll put the rest of these in. And uh whatever’s left over, Rich, since it’s getting cooler, I think we should save them for s’mores. And then what we can do is get the little fire pit. What is that? We have a solo stove. Yeah. And we can make some s’mores. Yeah. I like that whole idea with the um they wrap that uh biscuit thing around. Okay. We’re going to have to save that for camping. Okay. Any uh No. Nope. They’re all good to go. So, what we’re going to do next is we’re going to put in our 3 tablespoons of sugar. Oh, wow. And we’re going to put in our melted butter. Yum. And get all that goody out of there. And we’re just going to stir this together. And once we get it all stirred together, we’re going to put it in the um pie crust and we’re going to bake that at 350 for 10 minutes. I was making this and it just didn’t feel like it was wet enough. So, I’m melted two more tablespoons. Now, sometimes these graham crackers are drier. Could be. And it’s just better to be safe because you don’t want to make this and then, you know, the crust not turn. Those graham crackers also look darker than They’re chocolate. Oh. Oh, did I not say that? These are chocolate graham crackers. Yeah, I was going to say they look darker than the other one. That looks a lot better. That might have been the reason why uh it took more butter. I don’t know. All right. So, then we’re going to dump this in. That’s a messy job you got here. Well, it’s a messy job as someone’s got to do. My hands are clean. And I just washed them. And we are going to press this down. Now, I would think you need another pie um um pan. Smash it in there. Well, that’d be nice, but I don’t have another one this size. Imagine your hands work just fine. Yeah. So, we’re just going to press it in there. See, if I hadn’t put that extra butter, I don’t feel like it would have been as easy to press in. You know what I’m saying? Trying to make it all even. Yeah. See, it doesn’t really I mean, it’s homemade. All right. We’re going to put this in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes. Okay. The oven is already preheated. Oh, okay. So Oh, well, and I even have my little Yeah, it’s all over the house, folks. It’s fall, y’all. And even got a fall shirt on. Kind of. We’re going to put the timer and we’ll be back when it’s done. All right, our timer just went off and our crust should be ready to go. That’s it. Just 10 minutes. Yep. Okay, that’s kind of now. Ooh, it smells good. Now we have to let it cool. Oo, yeah, it does smell good completely. All right, so I’m thinking that’ll probably take about an hour. So, we’re going to come back and put the pie together uh after the topping. I mean, after the uh crust cools. Well, that’s a spread you got there, Jen. We have a little bit of a spread. Now, I want to show you guys something. Okay. What’s that? Everybody has the latest and greatest, but I have this. Oh, that’s your mom’s. And this is so old. I still have the instruction book. And I don’t know uh if it says Oh, 1974. Wow. This was my mom’s and I just kept it because every time that I bake something or mix something, I always think of her cuz she she always used this in her kitchen. Good at making cookies. She was very very good. I wish that I knew how to make her sugar cookies, but I can never do it like her. So anyway, we’re going to make this peanut butter pie. All right. And the first thing we need is a block of softened cream cheese. Oh, yeah. And I already took this out a while ago. So, we’re going to throw that in. And then get all that. Yeah. Get that goodness out of there. Goodie. There’s a little bit in the crevice. All right. And then the next thing we’re going to do, this is one block of cream cheese, is one cup of creamy peanut butter. And you know, I told Rich, he likes creamy. I like crunchy. I bet this would be really good with crunchy peanut butter. I don’t think so, cuz I like creamy. All right, so we’re going to put all this in here. All right, I’m going wipe my finger off. Wipe it. If I wasn’t filming, I would lick it, but I would probably get bad remarks for that. And we are going to whip this together. Oh, okay. You don’t add the sugar till later. First, we’re going to just mix these two together. Okay. I call I get the lick the uh the uh blender. Not yet, cuz we’re not ready. Now, the next thing that we have to do is we have to put in a cup and a quarter of powdered sugar. Okay. And now, look how this could be a cloud. I’ll do it from back here. I’m kidding. You’re good. We’re going to mix this all together. All right. So, now we have the cream cheese, the peanut butter, and the powdered sugar. And the last thing that we’re going to add is going to be an 8 oz container of Cool Whip. That’ll probably uh make it less thick. Kind of smooth it out a little bit. Oh, yeah. Now, this um because this um Oops. Sorry, Bella. this blender because it’s old, it’s not super powerful, which is kind of good when you get to this point cuz normally if you had a really powerful mixer, you’d have to do this by hand. But on this one, I’m going to run the fold and we’re just going to fold this in. All right, I’m going to scrape the sides down just to make sure. Huh. Yeah. And make sure make sure there’s no peanut butter stuck on the bottom. Okay. And then we’re gonna finish this up. Hey, Bella. She came to protect you, Daddy. Someone’s knocking on the door again. It’s got some kick. All right. Who’s been a good cameraman? Me. Me. Me. Me. Okay. I’m going to see if it’s good. pretty peanut buttery. It’s so good. All right, we’ll be back in just a minute. So, the pie crust is almost cooled, so we’re going to go ahead next and we’re going to melt our dark chocolate and peanut butter chips. These are tall house. All right, so our pie crust has cooled and now we are going to add the peanut butter pie filling. We’re just going to plop that in. And smooth it around. Now, I am not a professional baker by any means, but if I can do this, you guys get the gist. But you can do it, too. And the best thing is is what it tastes like. Rich, you want me to leave a little on the spatula for you? Oh, try to get it all off. Yeah, it’s not going to all come off. Well, then I’ll I’ll clean up. All right. So, I think that we’re ready to go now. Here is the melted chocolate and peanut butter chips. And I don’t know what this is going to look like. Yeah, it looks a little thick cuz I never done it before. We’re just going to Huh. kind of drizzle it on for decoration. You could always throw a couple u unmelted ones on here. Mhm. All right. And then we’re going to take a few of these extra ones like you said and just plop them down on here. Yeah. Think I should put a few more? Sure. Now, I have an extra whipped topping that we’re going to take and then when we slice the pie, we’ll put an extra little dollop of whipped topping on it. We’re going to try this over at Richie, right? Yeah, we’re going over to Richie and we’re going to grill out hamburgers and hot dogs today. And I brought I’m bringing we’re bringing the pie and the potato salad. So, here it is, folks. Chocolate peanut butter pie. I guess chocolate mostly for the topping and the uh crust. And we’re going to stick this in the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 2 hours. So, we will see you guys at Richie’s house. All right, we got the pie and we’re going to try it and tell you how it is. You ready? I’m ready. Me, too. I’m excited to try it if I can get it. Okay. Ready? Wow, that’s really good. That’s really good. That’s way better than I thought it would be. Oh, well, I don’t know if that’s an insult or a compliment. Well, it just it’s really good. It’s very good. You guys definitely recommend making this. The hardest part was making the crust. So, hope everybody had a great Labor Day.

  11. My parents always asked me to bake something. My mom asked for brownies and my dad wanted pineapple upside down cake. My brothers it was apple pie my crust was flaky but the secret is simple cold water mixing the flour. I wish I would of asked my grandmother how she made her pizza , it was the best. 😊

  12. Hi, where did you get that food chopper I’m looking for one. If you like I can share my mom’s sugar cookie recipe they were a favourite at the farmers market. Yes crunchy, delicious looking pie. To answer your question mom changed her mind she wanted chicken fried steak so we did that we are going to try it. Funny thing is that’s what I want for my birthday we are celebrating tomorrow bday the 3rd. Thanks for sharing I love peanut butter. Day not complete because you gave my piece away 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

  13. Be glad you don't live on the west coast as we're getting wildfire smoke from Canada, CA, OR and the Olympic Peninsula and desperately need rain.

  14. you inspired me to pull my decorations out too, your apron is so nice. what a treasure to have your mom's mixer, means so much. Great recipe, that's going to be a much requested pie to bring to family gatherings, thanks for a wonderful adventure

  15. You have a beautiful home. That pie looks delicious. Wrote down the recipe, going to the store tomorrow, get everything I need and going to whip one up. Yummy. I have a Sunbeam hand mixer identical to yours. My mother bought it for me when I was first married. So it has some age on it. Lol. Still works like a charm. Jen, you look adorable in your apron. I need some of those. You can really make a mess of your clothes cooking. Thanks for the video.

  16. I have some Sunbeam appliances my mother left me, the appliances from the 1970 s work better than today’s.

  17. Love peanutbutter pie. Next time you make it try adding a teaspoon or 2 of coconut oil to the chocolate, you will have magic shell and it will drizzle on the pie nicely

  18. I love the refrigerated peanut butter pie!
I use a premade Oreo cookie crust and drizzle the top of the pie with fudge ice cream topping or the hard shell kind. So yummy and perfect for a summertime dessert!😋
I do need to invest in a mini Kitchenaid food chopper, though.
    They seem so handy 😊
Thanks for sharing your recipe and have a blessed weekend 🙏

  19. I'm with Rich – smooth PB all the way. Those Sunbeam appliances made in the US in the 60s and 70s cannot be beat. I still have mom's mixer – almost like yours – and a toaster. They've performed like champs for almost 50 years now.

  20. Have you tried a peanut pie? You make it like a pecan pie, but use peanuts instead of pecans. I saw the recipe in a magazine (maybe Southern Living) years ago. I tried it and it was good.

Anyhow, I think your peanutbutter pie filling would be a good dessert dip, served with graham crackers or some other cookie.

  21. I'm with Rich I didn't know about Rae Dunn, so I had to look her up. It turns out that I bought a canister of Rae Dunn ,that did not have a lid, at The Salvation Army for $2. I use it for some kitchen utensils. It sells with the lid on Etsy for about $17. Interesting. You learn something everyday.
    The pie looks fantastic !!

  22. Great memories and ❤ what you share of your mom and how it makes you feel…am the very same! Also, seeing your mixer and, they would keep original boxes/instructions together like that…something about those years…🤔 another great video/recipe to try/decorations…thank you both…and tc
