I tried the black label El Yucateco after many recommendations, gotta say it was a miss on me. It tasted too roasted and bitter, almost burnt tasting. Just wasn't my jam but always happy to try new sauces.

  1. Ive found it adds a great “smoked” flavor to dishes, espescially meats, when im too lazy to actually run the smoker for hours. it is very very strong though and a little goes a long way. if grilling is your thing try mixing a few drops in with some bbq sauce before you grill your meat. ive found it pairs very well with sweeter bbq sauces, but thats personal preference.

I really like it on eggs but not on much else.

This is definitely an acquired taste. I had the same opinion as everyone else the first time I used it, but on subsequent uses, I really came to like it. Bacon cheddar mac and other things with cheese were my favorite things to use it with, and dishes that had a southwestern bent.

Many recommendations? This sauce is almost universally disliked.

  6. To me it tastes like the black salsa at Baja Fresh. I enjoy it.

I’ll take it off your hands if you’re offering.

Agreed, I don’t hate it but it kind of tastes like plastic to me

It reminds me of making smoked pepper flakes. I used to make jalapeño, habanero and ghost pepper flakes. It has a very similar taste just in sauce form.

I like their other products, but this one is a nope

So smoky that it tastes like campfire ash

Find the fattiest pork you can, roast it for hours. Slice thick fatty chunks. Add this sauce. It’s amazing.

Man I love that stuff on pizza. I do like really peaty scotch too so I know the flavor isn’t for everyone

At risk of sounding like a broken record…1/4 bottle in a pot of chili. Trust me.

Honestly el yucateco is basic and over rated. It’s *ok*, and I’ll totally use it if there are no better options, there are just sooo many better options
