Peanut butter cake, peanut butter mousse, grape jelly, and caramelized breadcrumbs for crunch. The "crust" was buttercream and a dusting of cocoa powder.

I also tried making bread-flavored whipped cream by infusing heavy cream with toast, but the flavor was too subtle to really taste with the peanut butter – it was fun though!

that sounds wild. my latest bake was a chocolate chip banana bread. maybe i’ll try infusing it with something next time. your cake sounds like a fun experiment, bet it was a hit.

  3. Cake looks awesome, I can’t get my brain to make it not look like sandwich bread.

    I love your sous chef!

  4. I had to click into the post to read your description as I was genuinely wondering if you used real bread as the cake layer. Or maybe had burned the edges to get crust. Amazing job!!!

How did the bread end up looking so much like real bread and did u anticipate that

  8. My favorite sandwich! This is when we need a “taste screen” not a touch screen. 😒

Wow! I really thought it was a PB&J sandwich, even after reading the description. Still hard to wrap my head that this is a cake and not bread. I agree with everyone that the execution and level of detail is amazing. If you don’t mind answering, did you use the breadcrumbs to enhance the bread-like appearance on the outside or is it the cake itself?

Thank you for sharing this. I’m always impressed with posts on this sub and the overall talent of the contributors.

How did you physically get cocoa powder onto just the sides? Is there a tool to use?

  20. I went through a phase of learning to make fancy chocolates and I too tried infusing cream with toast to make a ganache for a PB&J bonbon. It totally didn’t work for me either! But your cake is otherwise fantastic.

  21. *Damn-* imagine having a wife that loves you this much?? Yeah, me neither.
