Anthony Mangieri is on top of the pizza world once again—but this time, he’s not alone.
Last year, Mangieri and his New York City-based Una Pizza Napoletana regained the ranking of the world’s best pizzeria, and he has held the top spot in 2025. Except, this time around, he has tied for the No. 1 spot in 50 Top Pizza’s global poll with Francesco Martucci’s I Masanielli in Caserta, Italy—the world’s top-ranked pizzeria in 2023.
Mangieri, a New Jersey native, has been making pies for more than 30 years, moving his N.Y.C. joint to San Francisco before returning to Manhattan in 2018. His pizzas are rooted in a Neapolitan style, but over the decades, his natural-leavened pies have changed as he constantly tinkers with the recipe of his poofy-crusted creations. The victory comes on the heels of Mangieri topping the same association’s ranking of the 50 best pizza joints in America earlier this year for the fourth time in a row. Martucci offers a bit of a different experience at his I Masanielli, merging pizza with fine-dining techniques to play the temperature at which pizza is cooked and including nontraditional toppings like onion mayonnaise.
The remainder of the top five is rounded out by the Pizza Bar on 38th in Tokyo in second; Leggera Pizza Napoletana in São Paulo in third; Milan’s Confine and Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria in Naples tying for fourth; and Napoli on the Road in London taking fifth. The next American place to appear on the list is Los Angeles’s Pizzeria Sei at the ninth slot; the spot’s chef William Joo took home the award for Pizza Maker of the Year.

In terms of patriotic bragging rights, once again, Italy has the most pizzerias in the top 100 (actually, because of ties, there are 107 restaurants listed) with 41 restaurants making the cut. In second, the U.S.A. has 16 on the list (up one from last year), and, in third, Brazil has six, with five of them in São Paulo alone, making that city one of the world’s top pizza destinations—only the birthplace of pizza, Naples, also had five pizzerias appear in the rankings.
The organization behind the annual rankings, 50 Top Pizza, began in 2014 when a trio of Italians—Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere—wanted to shine a light on exceptional pies. In 2017, they released their first guide, and now the rankings are determined by surveys and in-person visits to pizzerias. The ascent of their rankings has matched the growth of high-end pizza, where people traverse the world to find great pies similar to how a certain class of diner chases restaurants on the World’s 50 Best list. Now, the humble pie has gone haute, with pizzaiolos turning the kids-party staple into the core of fine dining-esque tasting menus. For those who do chase great pizza around the world, the list below is a starting part for the journey.
