Little Italy, on Stockport Road, announced the news in a heartfelt post on social media, citing increases in running costs as the reason behind the closure.

The post, addressed to the restaurant’s ‘lovely customers’ said: “It is with a heavy heart that we share some news with you all. After over 18 years of serving you all in Timperley, we will be closing our doors later this month.

“This has not been an easy decision. Unfortunately, rising costs and a significant increase in rental have made it impossible to continue in a sustainable way.

“As much as we love what we do, the reality is that it has become too difficult to maintain under these circumstances.”

A date for the closing is yet to be announced, but the restaurant has vowed to “continue to cook with love and serve with the same passion as always” over the next few weeks.

The post continued: “We would love to see you all and share one more meal and raise a glass together.

“We will confirm our final closing date next week, but we wanted to let you know now so you can celebrate these last moments with us.

“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your support, kindness and friendship over the years. Timperley has been our home, and you have all been our family.”

Since the post was shared on September 5, it has been shared over 60 times, received 550 reactions, and attracted over 150 comments from customers, who have shared memories and messages of support.

Lil Norbury wrote: “Oh my goodness. I grew up on meals out at Little Italy. So many birthdays and special occasions there. The village won’t be the same without you.”

Karen Hunnisett said: “So sad to hear this. You have been the heart of our village. Such wonderful food and service. You will be much missed. Best wishes for the future.”

Erica Wilks: “Sad news. It’s been a Timperley institution.”
